Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 10, 2025, at the United Church of Faulkton with Pastor Shawn Stoll presiding. Burial will follow in the Miranda Cemetery. A prayer service will be 7:00 p.m., Sunday, March 9, 2025, at the church with visitation one-hour prior.
John Franklin “Jack” Wilhelm was born on May 5, 1950, in Faulkton, SD, to Clayton and Altha (Schilter) Wilhelm. He attended Faulk County Centerville Country School through the eighth grade and graduated from Faulkton High School in 1968. Jack then attended Dakota Wesleyan College in Mitchell for one year.
While living in Mitchell, he met the love of his life, Rita Mae Jockheck. The two were married on May 15, 1971, and made their home near Rockham. Jack dedicated his life to raising cattle and farming. When not tending to the land, he spent time bartending at the VFW, Short Stop, and The Steak Out. He also showcased his talent as “Wolf Man Jack,” stepping in as a DJ on occasion.
Jack had a deep love for his family, friends, and good conversations. He spent many years welcoming hunters to the area, sharing his passion for the outdoors, great food, and unforgettable hunting stories. Jack was proud to start Pheasants for Faulk County and was an integral piece of preserving wildlife for several years. He was well known for hosting an oyster feed at every Hansen’s Christmas party and at gatherings on the farm.
Becoming a grandparent was one of Jack’s greatest joys. He cherished the moment Emma shot her first deer and took great pride in traveling to watch “Little Jack” play football. These memories were among his most treasured. When he wasn’t out exploring the countryside, Jack was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, the Miranda Township Board, and the Miranda Cemetery Board. He was also a proud supporter of Faulkton athletics, as well as an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings—at least at the start of their seasons—along with the SDSU Jackrabbits and Northern State Wolves.
Jack’s life and legacy will be cherished by his wife, Rita; his children, Penny (AJ) Coster of Sioux Falls, Matthew of Rapid City, and Jason of Miller; his grandchildren, Remington Coster and Ruby, Emma, and Jack Wilhelm; his great-grandchildren, Amarah and Josiah Wilhelm; his sister-in-law, Pat Wilhelm of Sioux Falls; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather Glenn Stammer, and his siblings, Rolland Wilhelm and June Anderson.
Jack's family requests that you dress casually for his services.

Sorry to hear of Jack's passing. He was a cousin to me. We went to country school together and only lived a few miles from each other growing up. I know he will be missed.

Rita: Sharing from one of my favorite movies: I have no words to express to you my sadness for the loss of Jack. The world is a lesser place without him, but I know he is with God and the angels, and even heaven is improved by his presence there. I know you too are sure of this and yet, this knowledge can’t diminish his loss and your grief. With abiding respect and affection.
My most heartfelt condolences to the family of Jack Wilhelm. I am keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. Jack will be missed by all who knew him. God Bless!
