Nicolaas Johannes van Zyl, 56, of Highmore and South Africa, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital in Miller.

Celebration of Nicolaas' life will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 9, 2025, at Luze Funeral Home in Highmore.

Nicolaas Johannes van Zyl was born in Johannesburg, South Africa on May 29, 1968, to Barend van Zyl and Anna PCM Putter.  Nicolaas is a father of three boys and a grandpa of three grandchildren.

Nicolaas was good at rugby at school from a young age up to high school. After school, he went to work at the prison service and then in 1990 started at Iscor Vereeniging. In 2024, he went to work for Kroeplin Air Services, where he was in his element because he loved to work there.  Nicolaas was very happy when we went fishing and always tried to teach Alida how to do it.  He did woodwork sometimes, and he made Doll furniture.

Nick lived for his grandchildren, he would do anything to give Johane, Danielle, and Nico everything. For the grandchildren, he is Poepa Nick. Nick loved his work and was so happy to go rock picking. When he worked at the airport, he was always so happy on the phone when he was talking about the tender truck he was driving. He loved his work so much.  During the Holiday, he told everybody about his time in Highmore and bragged about his house and the people he worked with.  There was a house he said he wanted to buy one day.

Nick will be missed a lot by Alida, Hannes, Sune, Johane, Danielle, and Nico family, and friends
