Robert Drew, 86, of Gettysburg, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Avera Oahe Manor, Gettysburg, SD.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will take place in the Gettysburg Cemetery.
Robert Eugene Drew was born on December 1, 1938, to William E. and Imogene (Britton) Drew, at the family farm southeast of Gettysburg. Robert “Bob” attended school at Gettysburg, graduating with the class of 1957. He furthered his education by attending Northern State College for two years.
Bob married the love of his life, ever since the seventh grade, Janice Potts on August 8, 1958. To this union, four children were born.
Bob worked and sold cars with his dad at B & D Motors and worked for Sammy Samuelson at Miller’s Clothing. He later worked for Western States Wholesale, and Super Valu Stores as a merchandise representative. Bob and Jan, together with their four children, owned and operated Drew’s Drive In from 1975 – 1991. They employed many young people over the summer months. They were famous for their “Bob’s Burger”, tacos, and blue almond ice cream.
Bob was a Shriner and an active member of the Masonic Lodge for 40 years. He and his father, and two sons were three generations of Masons.
Bob was an avid sports fan and followed his boys to every sports event. He was the official scorekeeper and announcer for the Gettysburg Battlers for many years. He also was the voice on the radio hosting “Coaches Corner” for 10 years. Bob enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing, playing cards, and playing cribbage with his sons and grandsons.
Bob is survived by his sister, Mona (Jim) Baldridge; four children: Lori (Rod) Lemler, Bobi (Erno) Kallenberger, Robert W. (Amy) Drew, and Deryk K. Drew; nine grandchildren: Devyn (Hope) Lemler, Shelby (Eric) Schoenfelder, Ashley Drew and fiancé (Ryan), Connor Drew, Kadyn (Tial) Drew, Treyson, Peyton, Dylan, and Trynitie Drew; four great grandchildren: Sam and Evelyn Lemler, Huntley Drew, and Bryson Schoenfelder.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice; parents, Bill and Genee Drew; in-laws, Keith and Maxene Potts; and uncle/foster brother, Dick (Joie) Drew.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Bob’s arrangements.
