Margaret Moncur, 91, of Miller, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Good Samaritan Society in Miller.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 3, 2025, at the First United Methodist Church in Miller, with Rev. Allison Galbreath officiating.  Burial will follow at G.A.R. Cemetery, Miller.  Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Miller Friendship Center in Miller, SD.

Margaret was born on July 12, 1933, to Virgil C. and Eva J. (Wettstein) Holm in Conde, SD. Margaret attended grade school in Conde through 4th grade. The family then moved to Orient, SD, where she continued her education and graduated from Orient High School in 1951. 

On January 15, 1954, Margaret married Wayne Moncur in Pierre, SD, and to this union five children were born: Marilyn, Carolyn, Sharon, Janet, and Mike. They farmed with Wayne’s brothers until they retired in 1980 and moved into Miller. 

Margaret worked as a bookkeeper and teller at 1st National Bank in Miller for the first few years after school.  She then became a housewife and mother, enjoying living on the farm and raising her children there. She started driving school bus after the girls were older and did that for 11 years. She also loved cooking and baking for her family. After retirement, she continued to bake, especially her homemade chocolate chip cookies and frosted cinnamon rolls. Margaret loved to play bridge and to golf any chance she could get. She was known in the ladies’ league as “Down the Middle Margaret”.

She is survived by her five children: Marilyn (Jim) Dyer, Miller; Carolyn (Larry) Hall, Wentworth; Sharon Brueggeman, Hartford; Janet (Pete) Mellema, Sioux Falls; and Mike (Shelley) Moncur, Miller; eight grandchildren: Amy Voelker (Paul Anderson), Colman; Dan (Anne) Hall, Madison; Karen (Brian) Sundermann, Canistota; Sheila (Chase) Brown, Hartford; Cheryl (Travis) Bergeson, Lake City; Laura (Chris) Thesenvitz, Sioux Falls; Lisa (Zeth) Finch, Johnston, IA; and Erin Moncur (Travis Hass), Miller; 20 great grandchildren; one brother, Charles (Maxine) Holm of Rapid City; one sister-in-law, Violet Moncur of Miller; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne; sister, Patricia Haider and husband Leo; sister, Shirley Jungwirth and husband Terry; son-in-law, Al Brueggeman; son-in-law, Ronald Boldt; nephews, Jerry Jungwirth and John Haider; brother-in-law, Roger Moncur and wife Arlene; brother-in-law, Merle (Bud) Moncur; and sister-in-law, Mary Alice Bentley and husband Emil.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Margaret's arrangements.

    She was an absolute champ at any game she would play. Her skill (and luck) were astonishing! When I grow up I want to be just like her… Miss her so much.
