LauRaina Red Water

LauRaina Red Water, 24, of Big Bend, journeyed to the spirit world July 30, 2025, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 7, 2025, at St. Catherine's Hall in Big Bend. Burial will be at St. Catherine's Cemetery in Big Bend. Two-night wake services will begin at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 5, and Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at St. Catherine's Hall in Big Bend. A procession to Big Bend will leave at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 6, from Luze Funeral Home in Highmore.

On October 15, 2000, Lauraina was born to Thomas Scares Hawk and Mary Jo Red Water in Pierre, SD.  Lauraina spent her childhood growing up in Big Bend, SD, where she resided with her mother, Mary Jo.  Lauraina went to elementary school at Highmore-Harrold. Lauraiana went on to attend and graduate from Crow Creek High School.  She spent her senior year at the Crow Creek Dorms where she was well known for her outgoing personality.  When Lauraina was not staying in the dorms, she lived with her Hunka mother, Lacosta McGhee, down in Fort Thompson, SD, where Lauraina would be found raising all heck with hunka sister, Lashaye McGhee.  Throughout high school, Lauraina enjoyed helping her class fundraise, participate in Track & Field, and being 1 of 4 girls to play football her senior year.  She loved helping Ms. Maguire with the yearbook and taking tons of pictures.  If Lauraina was not seen, she was heard laughing and cracking a joke.  Out of high school, Lauraina moved to Pierre to reside with her mother and sisters. She loved staying up all night listening to her music, and going on long cruises around the dam.  If the weather was nice enough to not wear a sweater, Lauraina would be asking her friends to go jump in and swim because to her it was “hot out”.  She took pride and joy into loving and caring for her niece “Big Carm.”

Lauraina is survived by; Mother, Mary Jo Red Water, Father; Thomas Scares Hawk, Siblings; Brother; Bryan Scares Hawk, Sisters; Bryanna Red Water, Justine Red Water, Nieces; Kaelynn Scares Hawk, Brylee Howe, Mckayla Howe, Devany Gray, Carmaleda Merritt, Special Cousin; Johanna Long Chase, Special Grandfather; Fabian Howe Sr, Hunka Mother: Lacosta McGhee, Hunka Sisters; Lashaye McGhee, Lastacia McGhee.

Lauraina is preceded in death by: Grandmother; Naomi Chapman, Violet Good Bear, Grandpa: Joseph “Kernie” Red Water, Richard Scares The Hawk, Uncle; Robert Red Water, Aunt; Teresa Big Eagle, Niece; Kimimila Red Water, Special Friend; Brockton Veit, Special Grandmother; Mavis McGhee.
