Loren Bruce Azure, 44, of Stephan, passed away at 8:23 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Memorial service will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 18, 2025, at the Fort Thompson Community Center in Fort Thompson with Rev. Kim Fonder officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will follow. Burial will be at St. Ann Cemetery in Belcourt, ND, at a later date.
Loren was born on December 4, 1980, in Pierre, SD, to LeRoy Bruce Azure and Loretta Marcellais. He was raised in Stephan/Ft. Thompson area, attended and graduated from Crow Creek High School, where he later worked for 3-4 years as maintenance. He then transitioned to road construction as a heavy equipment operator in South Dakota and Minnesota, where he worked up until his diagnosis.
He enjoyed fishing, hanging out, riding around with his friends, reading, and taking nature walks. Loren will be lovingly remembered, greatly missed, and will forever be in our hearts.
He is survived by his father, Bruce; mother, Loretta; sisters: Fiona, Jessica, Nicole, Anna, and Stacy; uncles and aunties; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents; his brother, Zane; and many aunts and uncles.
Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Loren’s arrangements.

My Dearest Sis Loretta, Bruce, Jakieth, Fiona, Jessica, Nicole, Stacy & Anna, Words cannot describe my heartache and sorrow for your family. Sonny carried his cross courageously, but the burden was too heavy. Our Lord showed his mercy by calling Sonny to his heavenly home. May all your cherished memories sustain you during this sorrowful time, and may you find comfort knowing Sonny is no longer suffering and resting in the arms of the angels. From his photo, I can see he still had the same warm smile I remember from high school.
