Lana Moeller

Lana Moeller, 72, of Wolsey, went home to be with her beloved Lord and Savior, Jesus, on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at the Community Church of St. Lawrence. A luncheon will follow with burial following at Beulah Cemetery, rural St. Lawrence. A visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, followed by a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, all at the church.

Lana was born in Junction City, Kansas, to Roy Lee and Dorothy Bultman on April 21, 1953, and moved to Elkhart, Kansas, when she was a month old.  Lana attended Elkhart Elementary School until the age of eight, when her family made the journey north to what would become their family farm near Wessington, South Dakota.  Mom’s recollection of the journey was that of discovery, comparing it to the pioneering days when settlers moved west in covered wagons to explore new land and opportunity.  Lana attended Wessington Elementary School and then St. Lawrence Elementary School, where she would graduate from 8th grade.  For high school, Lana attended Wessington High School, from where she would graduate in 1971.  Upon graduation, Lana attended Northern State University for one year but later completed her undergraduate degree at Huron College in 1987.  After graduation, Lana would teach high school at Sunshine Bible Academy until 1991.  Later, she taught high school students at Wessington Springs High School until 2002.  Lana continued her higher education at the University of South Dakota, where she completed her Graduate work in 2003.  Over the following years, Lana held other employment, including working at Wal-Mart for a year and then working at the Huron Area Center for Independence from 2007 until her eventual retirement.  Lana had fond memories of working with the mentally handicapped and considered it pure joy to serve them.

Lana married the love of her life, Marcus Moeller of St. Lawrence, South Dakota, on April 1, 1972, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wolsey, South Dakota.  No, that’s not a joke; they were married on April Fool’s Day!  Marcus and Lana’s first home was located northeast of St. Lawrence until they later moved into a trailer home located on the farm of Richard Moeller.  They would live in this home until their final child was born and then move to the farm of Roy Bultman for one year.  Their dream of owning their own farm became a reality as they were able to purchase a small farm in the fall of 1975.  The farm was located a few miles north of Vayland, South Dakota, and this would be the family farm where they would live and raise their family for the next 31 years.

Lana loved farm life!  She loved the open spaces and the beauty of the farmland and the farming process.  Lana loved working with her hands and was most comfortable when she was outside working on the farm.  Anyone who knew Lana knew full well how hard she worked on the farm.  Any job that a man could do, Lana could do as well.  She could cultivate the field, haul grain, or operate a combine.  Additionally, Ishe ran the household, taking care of the business side of the farm and all the domestic duties of the family home.  Lana was the epitome of the old school farm wife.  She could do it all.

More than her love for the farm, Lana’s world revolved around her children and eventually, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She never missed a basketball game, volleyball game, track meet, or musical recital.  Lana was the consummate positive cheerleader and ever-present encourager for her family.  I’m not sure anyone cheered louder than Lana, and she was always quick to heap praise on each performance.  Her constant, positive demeanor will be dearly missed.

Anyone who knew Lana well knew that Jesus was #1 in her life.  In addition to her faithfulness to the Lord, Lana loved living life, she cherished her family, and she loved other people.  Lana never met a stranger, and she was always quick to share Jesus with those she met.  She loved making others happy, and seeing other people smile or laugh brought her personal joy.

Lana is survived by her husband, Marcus, and her three children, Matthew (Karen) Moeller, Aaron (Victoria) Moeller, and Leah (Chris) Fanning.  Her legacy also includes six grandchildren: Danica, Macee, Eli, Hailey, Alana, and Ryann, and three great-grandchildren: Daelyn, Dawsyn, and Daivyn.

Lana was preceded in death by her grandparents, Clancy Malone (1961), Hilda Bultman (1970), Henry Bultman (1982), and Alice Malone Nation (2008); father-in-law, Richard Moeller (1995); grandson, Ethan Fanning (1999); mother-in-law, Margaret Moeller (2003); brother, Tony Bultman (2006); mom, Dorothy Bultman (2013); dad, Roy Lee Bultman (2023); and brother Mark Bultman (2023).
