Richard Joy, 91, of Miller, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, surrounded by his family.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Miller, with Rev. Rhonda Wellsandt-Zell officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at G.A.R. Cemetery in Miller.  Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Miller Area Foundation, PO Box 295, Miller, SD 57362; HCHWCF C/O Miller Needs a Pool, 300 W.5th St, Miller, SD 57362; or Trinity Lutheran Church, 707 E 1st Ave, Miller, SD 57362.

    Dave and I will certainly miss Rich at the Ranch and Cowboy Country for coffee along with the Xmas breakfasts at the lodge! 😞. We have so many fond memories together over the years from fishing with the boys to trips in the camper for sorting shows in SF! Of course those trips were generally hit with a breakdown but we always got it going and made it there and home safely! Our heartfelt sympathy to the entire Joy family! 🙏🏻🙏🏻

    Richard was so much a part of the Miller Community. He was out and about, courtesy of Alan, and his friends every day. I loved seeing him when I’d go to coffee with my Dad. They talked about being in the National Guard, hunting, fishing, and sometimes they talked about their solution for the world’s problems. The conversation was always lively with lots of laughter. He was a good, honest, kind, giving man, who spoke up for what he believed.
    You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
