Randy Lee Fawcett was born October 21, 1955, in Miller, South Dakota, to Wayne and Helen (Hines) Fawcett.  Randy grew up on the family ranch and attended Ohio Elementary School through 8th grade, then went to Sunshine Bible Academy, where he graduated. He attended Mitchell Technical Institute for Agriculture. Ranching wasn’t just his livelihood—it was his identity. He spent his entire life on the Bluebird Ranch, where he developed an uncanny ability to know his cattle individually and intuitively. His nieces often joked that the bulls were his “exes,” the cows were his “girlfriends,” and the calves were his “babies,” reflecting both his humor and the deep connection he had with his herd.

Not only was Randy devoted to raising cattle, but he also farmed the land, tending fields of corn, soybeans, and hay. The rhythm of planting, growing, and harvest was woven into his everyday life, another way he stayed connected to the land he loved.

During his younger years, Randy was active in 4‑H, showing cattle and earning numerous awards. This early passion continued throughout his life, leading him into dairy cattle and AI work, including the remarkable achievement of selling a calf for $65,000.

His love for animals extended beyond cattle. Randy was passionate about horses—racing at the Huron racetrack, participating in Suicide Races, training mustangs, and teaching his nieces and nephews how to ride. He lived life on his own terms, choosing the freedom of a single life and embracing the land, work, and animals he treasured.

Most of all, Randy cherished the close bond he had with his nephew, Josh Fawcett, whom he looked upon as a son. Randy taught Josh everything—from cattle to running the Fawcett Enterprise business. In their final conversation, Randy proudly told him, “There is my #1 Sales Person!” A moment that will forever live in the heart of Josh.

Randy is survived by his siblings: Steve (Brenda) Fawcett, Dawn Rowland, John (Darlene) Fawcett, Della (Gaylon) Anderson, and Scott Fawcett; aunts and uncles, cousins, several nieces and nephews; great‑nieces and great‑nephews; and great‑great‑nieces and great‑great‑nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Helen Fawcett; and his grandparents, Edwin and Ada Fawcett, and Sanford and Maxine Hines; several aunts and uncles.

Randy will be remembered for his independence, his dry humor, his deep knowledge of cattle and horses, and for the lasting impact he made on his family and the place he always called home.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Randy’s arrangements.
