agnes gross

January 29, 1926 ~ April 7, 2022

Agnes Gross, 96, of Pierre and formerly of Highmore, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2022, at Avantara in Pierre.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Luze Funeral Home, Highmore, with Roger Day officiating.  Burial will follow at the Highmore Cemetery.

Agnes Ester Louise was born January 29, 1926, in Dickey County, North Dakota to Otto and Reka (Gebhardt) Genter, the youngest of their four children.  She was raised on the family farm at Monango, North Dakota and graduated from Monango High School.  She was united in marriage with Gordon R. Goodrich on November 18, 1944, at Anaconda, Montana.  Gordon was on his way to serving in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Gordon and Agnes had three children: Carla, Gordon, Jr., and Penny.  They made their home at Highmore.  Agnes became a widow in June of 1974 but continued to live on the family farm at Highmore.  She loved her sheep and farming.  She also worked at the Highmore School for many years.

She met and married Edwin Gross in 1981 at Miller, South Dakota and moved to the Gross Ranch to work side by side with Ed to raise sheep and cattle and Geraldine, their beloved dog.  Edwin passed away in 2002 and Agnes then sold the livestock except for Little Bit and Scout, their horses.  She rented all the ranch and moved to an acreage in Miller.  She remained there and kept busy with activities, horses, yardwork, and her favorite, visiting with friends and neighbors.  Agnes was a very social person and prided herself in dressing up and looking “Stolz”.  Her grandkids remember her always wearing large clip-on earrings and high heels.  She enjoyed life to the fullest.

The last few years her health took her to Avantara in Pierre where she eventually lost her battle with Alzheimer’s.

Her memory will be cherished by her children: Carla Bloomenrader of Highmore, Gordon “Mick” (Darlene) Goodrich of Pierre, and Penny (Wayne) Crossway of Pierre; seven grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and numerous great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, Gordan Goodrich, Sr., and Edwin Gross; two brothers: Elmer and Lawrence Genter; and one sister, Myrna Presler.

Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Agnes' arrangements.
