Alan Talks

Alan K. Talks Sr., 62, of Eagle Butte, passed away Friday, June 17, 2022 at Cheyenne River Health Center, Eagle Butte.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., MDT, Friday, June 24, 2022 at the HVJ Cultural Center, Eagle Butte. Burial will follow in St. Luke’s Catholic Cemetery, Thunderbutte. A wake service will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 23, 2022 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte with a procession from the 4-mile at 4:00 p.m.
Alan Kenneth Talks Sr. was born February 26, 1960 in Eagle Butte, SD to Lawrence and Margie (Clown) Talks. He was a proud descendant of the Black Buffalo, Crazy Horse, and Fights The Thunder Tiospaye. He graduated from Cheyenne Eagle Butte in 1980 and continued his education at Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute and lastly United Tribes Technical College, receiving a certificate in heavy equipment operations.
While in high school, Alan fell in love with the game of basketball. He formed his own team, “Bad Medicine”, and they would travel, playing independent ball around the area. Alan also had a passion for native artwork producing many beautiful things. Over the years, Alan worked for First Dakota Enterprise, CRST Telephone Authority, Property and Supply and lastly for the HVJ Cultural Center (NICOA).
Alan’s life will be cherished by his sons: Alan Jr., Duke, Randy, Drew, Dillion, and Elliot Talks; daughters: Tawny and Tara Talks, Cesca Black Bear, and Maraz Talks; and siblings: Colleen Talks (Robert), Amiel Talks (Nanette), and Donna Talks.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons: Tate Talks and Whitney “Trax” White; sisters: Kathleen Lafferty, Thelma Traversie, and Cybil, Sandy, Joyce, and Belinda Talks; and brothers: Luther Alan and Orville Talks.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Alan’s arrangements.
