Albert Cook

Albert Cook, 70, of Eagle Butte, passed away, Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. MDT, Saturday, June 15, 2013 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte with Mother Margaret Watson officiating. Burial followed at St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Red Scaffold. All night wake services were held Thursday, June 13, 2013 with a procession from the 4 mile junction at 5:00 p.m. There were services at 7:00 p.m., both Thursday and Friday evening at St. John’s Church.

Albert Cook was born on February 18, 1943 to Amos J. and Jeannette L. (Owl King) Cook at the Old Agency.  He was the youngest of four children: Drury Sr., Barnett, and Karen Blossom. 

In 1961, at the age of 18, Albert left home to find work in the state of Nebraska in order to support himself.  In 1969 Albert married, Lucille Wallowing Bull.

After sometime, he traveled about the states attending Pow Wows as both a singer and dancer.  Over the years he had various jobs in many places, including: a truck driver in South Dakota and Nebraska, a potato harvest belt operator, a crew leader in Wyoming, a horse breaker, a heart breaker, a bronco buster, and a ball player.  In his free time, Albert often played horseshoes and bingo. 

In 1995, Albert quit his alcohol abuse and went to work at The Four Bands Healing Center for the next fifteen years, helping others fight their own addictions.  In 2010, he also quit smoking. 

Albert is survived by his first cousins: Myrtle Howard, Joyce Pease, Cecilia Circle Eagle, Betty Cook, Dennis Cook, Homer Cook, and Ronnie Cook; his nieces: Wilma Waters, Denise Cook, Blossom Cook, Tammy Cook, Benita Clark, Veronica Holy, Cynthia Cook, Antoinette Cook, Iris Hill, Leona Long Crow, Dena Waloke, Jordyn Cook, Belinda Aungie, Berdina Norris, Peggy Knife, Beverly “Delmar” Clown, Marilyn Circle Eagle, Helene Circle Eagle, Joy Circle Eagle, Lisa and Theresa Pease; his nephews: Wakinyan Peta, Lyle Cook, Jay Cook, Cyril Cook, Gideon “Tony” Cook, Harold Cook, Delano Cook, Amos Cook, Drury Cook, Bruce Cook, Kay Cook, Keaton Cook, Reuben Twin Jr., Bervin Littleton, Bevin Circle Eagle Jr., Monte Pease and Willie Circle Eagle. 

Albert is preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Jeanette Cook; his siblings: Drury Sr., Barnett, and Karen Blossom; his nieces: Enola and Gwendolyn; and his nephew, Richard.
