Alice Cooper, 98, of Faulkton, passed away Monday, February 27, 2012 at the Sturgis Regional Hospital in the Hospice Suite.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 2, 2012 at Luce Funeral Home in Faulkton with Pastor Bill Hoffman officiating. Burial followed in the Faulkton Cemetery. Visitation was held one hour prior to the services.

Alice L. Allbee was born April 9, 1913 to Ellis J. and Bessie (Wilcox) Allbee in Bennett County, SD. Her family moved to Huron in 1916 and then in 1921 to Edmunds County, near Loyalton where she attended grade school. She loved to ride horse and told the story that she wore out three ponies herding cattle.

On July 3, 1934 Alice married Russell Cooper at Redfield, SD. They farmed in Faulk County, South Dakota for a year before moving to Bagley, MN where they worked in Timber for two years, before returning to South Dakota farming near Norbeck.  In 1958 they returned to Bagley, MN where they lived for 10 years making the final return to South Dakota in 1968. They made their home in Faulkton where Alice was employed by the housekeeping department at the Faulk County Hospital. She retired at the age of 74 after her husband passed away. She remained in her home until March 2009, when she moved to Sturgis to live with her son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Colleen Cooper. She remained there until her admission to the hospital on February 22, 2012.

Alice is survived by her sister, Ione Buckley of Huron; brother, Glen (Beverly) Allbee of Woonsocket; her children: Roger (Colleen) and Ronald Cooper of Sturgis; grandchildren: Michael (Jessica) Cooper and Leroy (Jennifer) Cooper  of Sturgis, Jennifer (Richard) Kincaid of Black Hawk, Russell and Roger Cooper of Sioux Falls, Alicia Cooper of Rapid City, Ashley Cooper of Spearfish, Bruce Cooper of Hot Springs and Abby Cooper of Rockerville, SD; great grandchildren: Joren, Brittany, Kaylee, and Jayden Kincaid, Grace Cooper, Susan Cooper, Nathan Adam and Dillon Yost.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Russell in 1987; son Bruce in 1944; daughter Darlys in 1975; and brothers: Leo, Lloyd, Maurice and Louis.

Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Alice’s arrangements.

    I remember the many family gatherings through the years when we had time to visit with our Aunt and Family!!
