Alyene Crosley, 74, of Parkston, SD, passed away, Sunday, May 2, 2010 at the Avera Bormann Manor in Parkston.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 8, 2010 at the Salem Lutheran Church in Parkston with Pastor David Winterfeldt officiating. Burial followed at the Parkston Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 7, 2010 followed by a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the church.

Alyene Johnson was born September 10, 1935 at Lynch, Nebraska to Emerson and Amelia (Buettner) Johnson. She attended Monowi Grade School and Lynch High School.

September 22, 1951 Alyene was united in marriage to Ross E. Crosley at Vermillion, South Dakota.  They made their first home in Santee, Nebraska farming with Ross’s family. Than due to the land being purchased as part of the Yankton Dam construction both families relocated to Hurley, South Dakota to continue farming. After a while they moved to South Sioux City, Nebraska where she worked as a waitress for the Diamond Horseshoe Café while Ross E. worked at the meat packing plant and did construction with large road machinery work part time.  Following this they made a move to Parker, South Dakota to take over the operation of the Crosley Bar from Ross’s folks. Then their final move came when they relocated to Parkston where together she and Ross ran the Crosley Bar until they sold it in the late 1970’s. Alyene then worked for the next 25+ years at Raven Industries


During her life she enjoyed spending time with her family, quilting (making one for each of her grandchildren) and embroidery. She was a member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries.


Alyene’s life will be cherished by her three children: David Crosley of Parkston, Diane (Bill) Pape of Freeman and Darla Crosley (Bruce) Rohrer of Graham, Wash.; inherited children: Mike (JoAnn) Almond of Parker and Jerry (Mary) Merrill of Sioux Falls; 15 grandchildren: Tanner Wells of Mitchell, Ashley Crosley of Omaha, NE, Landon Crosley of Kansas City, MO, Nancy (James) Lei of Rapid City, Jamie and Jillian Crosley of Sioux Falls, Dana Pape of Maple Grove, MN, Mandy (Joel) Luikens of Gettysburg, Tiffany (Kevin) Hofer of Miller, Lindsay (John) Neth of Tea, Brooke Pape of Freeman, Cory (Sally) Fisher of Yankton, Melissa Crosley of Sioux Falls, Jenny Almond of Sioux Falls and Stephen Almond of Parker; 10 great grandchildren: Danny Crosley, Carter and Collin Lei, Grant and Carter Luikens, Grace Hofer, Selena Fisher and Akwein and Alei Riak and John William Neth, Jr.; four brothers: Milton Johnson of Fremont, NE, Marvin (Jean) Johnson of South Sioux City, NE, Franklin (Marian) Johnson of Neligh, NE and LeRoy (Rose) Johnson of Fremont, NE; four sisters: Darlene (Jim) Eaton of Sioux City, IA, Joyce Crosley of Norfolk, NE, Lucille (Charles) Faulkner of Pierce, NE and Beverly (Bob) Boes of Gregory and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.


She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ross; one son, Daniel Crosley, one grandson, Christopher Almond; two brothers: Donald and infant brother, Melvin and two sister-in-laws: Ardith and Betty Johnson.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Alyene's arrangements.
