Andrew Little Shield

Andrew A. Little Shield, 48, of Cherry Creek, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Monument Health, Rapid City. 

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. MDT, Saturday, June 5, 2021, at the Cherry Creek Blue Gym, Cherry Creek, SD. Burial will follow in the Congregational Cemetery, Cherry Creek. Wake services will be 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 4, 2021, at the gym. A procession will start at the 2-mile east of town at 4:00 p.m.

Andrew Arlin Little Shield was born on August 11, 1972 in Eagle Butte, South Dakota to Theophile Little Shield Sr. and Myrle Hale Little Shield. Andy grew up in Cherry Creek and attended school in Cherry Creek, Red Scaffold, and Eagle Butte, South Dakota. One of Andy’s favorite pastimes was riding horses. Andy participated in the annual Big Foot Memorial Ride to Wounded Knee from 2007 to 2015, as well as the Little Big Horn Ride from 2008 to 2010. He enjoyed listening and dancing to music. He also enjoyed getting in on the Men’s Fancy Shawl Special during the annual Cherry Creek New Year’s Celebration. Andy spent many years helping one of his many good friends, Maynard Dupris, on his ranch. He would help with riding horse, fixing fence, feeding cattle, and the annual brandings. After Maynard passed, Andy continued to help Maynard’s children with the ranch. Andy had a way of making everyone around him laugh. His laughter and smile will be greatly missed.

Andy is survived by his brothers: Steven Little Shield, Clyde Little Shield, Norman Little Shield, and Narlin “Dixie” Little Shield; sisters: Valtina Little Shield, June Little Shield and Nora Little Shield; stepson: Chad Kiukanpi; cousins: Marilyn Runs After, Arlene Demery, and Sylvester Waloke; numerous nieces and nephews; and two special grandchildren: Briella Dupris and Branden Maynard Dupris Jr.

Andy was preceded in death by his mother and father, Myrtle Hale Little Shield and Theophile Little Shield Sr.; brothers: Nathaniel Little Shield, Theophile Little Shield Jr., and Theodore Little Shield; sisters: Mary Ann Taken Alive and Judy Little Shield; nephew: Freddie Taken Alive; and nieces: Mary Lou Taken Alive and Inez Taken Alive.
