Anna Dockter was born January 9, 1913 at Martin, North Dakota to John and Carolina (Plienes) Dockter. She grew up and attended rural schools in the Martin area. The family farm was her home until marrying Edwin Soloman Mehrer on October 11, 1936 in Anamoose, ND where they resided for the next five years and started their family which grew to be five wonderful children.

In 1943 the family moved to a farm in Hyde County, South Dakota and lived there for the next ten years. At that time they relocated into Highmore, which is where she stayed for the remainder of her life. Anna spent her entire life caring for others around her. She was always willing to help even if it was cleaning, butchering chickens, cutting hair or preparing meals. Along with this she worked as a janitor for the Sully Buttes Telephone Company, the city parks department during the summer months and the local post office. And yet she was always home to greet her children after school with some good warm homemade bread.

Anna’s special interest and hobbies included drawing, bowling which she did into her mid 80’s, quilting, attending area church functions and always helping others with anything they needed.

She was a member of the Hyde County Historical Society, Highmore’s Senior Citizen’s Center and Our Saviors Lutheran Church, where she participated in the women’s organization.

Anna’s life will always be treasured by her three sons: Kenneth of Brighton, Colo., Dennis (Sabra) of St. Paul, Minn. and Duane (Greta) of Brighton, Colo.; two daughters: Sharon Johnson and Marlene (Jim) Ahern all of Aurora, Colo.; fourteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and two sisters: Lydia Kohler of Rapid City and Verna Lewis of Seattle, Wash.

Her husband; parents; eleven brothers and sisters; one daughter-in-law, Myra Mehrer and one son-in-law, Ray Johnson, preceded her in death.
