Arlowyn was born on February 25, 1925 to Julia and Carl Holscher on the family farm near Wecota.

Arlowyn married Edward Prince December 15, 1951. They operated the Prince family farm north of Burkmere, SD, where they raised their family of six boys and one girl.   After their children had started school, Arlowyn prepared the noon lunches at the Faulkton Consolidated School for 25 years.   She was also one of the school bus drivers from 1974-1983.

Arlowyn was the first Grand Marshall of the 4th of July parade in Faulkton, in honor of her 32 years of service as the Treasurer of the Saddle Club.  She was also the treasurer of the Bryant Township for many years.  She was a proud member of the Democratic party and waited for a woman president to be elected.  She loved baseball and rodeos.

Arlowyn retired from the school in 1995 and relocated to Aberdeen in 1998 keeping busy as a R.S.V.P volunteer.  She never had a problem being bored as there was always a book to read or a crossword puzzle to be solved.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. We are so sorry to hear of Arlowyn’s passing. She is one of the last  of our former neighbors to pass. I remember visiting her one time in Aberdeen and she was as sharp as a tack and was keeping track of all the former neighbors.  The Prince and Clement families enjoyed riding the bus, going to country school and town school, and
     4-H activities together.
Rest In Peace Arlowyn, From the Paul & Clara Clement kids

  2. To my former neighbors friends, and country schiool classmates, the Prince family, I am sending you my sympathy at this difficult time. I will always remember Arlowyn as our school bus driver, and lunch lady! She was such a dear lady and hard worker! She definately earned her wings! She will be missed!

  3. I am so saddened to read of Arlowyn’s passing. She was such a sweet lady. I met Arlowyn at Bethesda several years ago and we were always buddies. We shared a love of books and sweets! We could always make each other smile if we were feeling down. This fall I moved into a new apartment and was excited to share we were both in room 207! I’ll remember her when I sit down to a cup of green tea and toast with jelly (her usual breakfast order 😊) Praying for your family during this sad time.

  4. I was so very sorry to hear of Arlowyn's passing. Sending my sympathy and love to the Prince families. Before Aunt Omie passed away would stop by and visit Arlowyn when I was in town. She was always a joy to visit. Sending prayers.

  8. TIM AND KRISTI OUR THOUGHTS ARE WITH YOU IN THE LOSS OF YOU MOM

  9. To the Prince Family, please know you are in my thoughts and prayers as you mourn the death of your mom/grandma, Arlowyn. I met Arlowyn through my mom, Vivian Vetch who was also at Bethesda. They met when they were both at Towne Square and quickly became close friends. Since my Mom was originally from Onaka they had many things in common and to visit about. After my mom’s death in 2011 I continued to occasionally stop by to visit Arlowyn, she was definitely a special lady! She gleaned with pride when she talked about her family and I don’t think I ever met anyone who liked chocolate as much as she did!! May your special memories of her make you smile; and may God’s love fill you with comfort & peace in your time of sorrow. With deepest Sympathy, Dave & Rita
