Arvid Harlan Holsing was born on the family farm near Wecota, South Dakota, on May 18, 1929. Except for his time in the military, he spent all 96 years of his life in the home where he was born. Arvid loved Jesus with all his heart, and he genuinely loved each person he met. He shared this with enthusiastic joy in every conversation. He loved the land, his family, his community, and his role as a deacon.  With his wife, Jennie, at his side, he served as a prison minister and truly enjoyed taking communion to the homebound and offering services at the Faulkton Area Medical Center.  He made dear friends during Cursillo and Koinonia retreats throughout South Dakota. He treasured watching the olive branches of his family grow and passionately shared his love of Christ with each child and their spouse, grandchild, and great grandchild. His role as a leader in the family extended to many nieces and nephews and cousins that depended on him as a pillar of strength. He was deeply loved and respected.

Arvid’s family would like to thank the Faulkton Area Medical Center for their compassionate care of Arvid. The family requests that memorials be directed to the Faulkton Area Medical Center Foundation, PO Box 100, Faulkton, SD 57438.

    Dear Jenny and Family:

We are heartbroken over the passing of Arvid. We think our elders will live on forever?! When we have had them for so long, it is hard to say goodby. He will be missed by many. We will always remember the the nice visits you made to Betty's. We were lucky enough to get in on a few of those. Take care. Hugs to you all.

  5. I cherish many fond memories of being on the farm while visiting my sister, Cathy, and the entire Holsing Family! My most favorite memory of Arvid dates back nearly 30 years. He, John (Kappes) and I were en route to checking cows in the pasture. It was a hot summer day, and Arvid said to John, “we gotta impress this east coast gal with the a.c. in this ‘ole truck!” To that, they both opened their respective butterfly windows to allow the hot air to trickle through, and both started chuckling! I’m still chuckling too, Arvid! You will be missed but, you will always be remembered with such great love!

  6. Jenny and family,

We are so very sorry to hear about Arvid's passing. Oh the joy he has found being with his Lord and Savior. Arvid was a wonderful man who really never met a stranger! He was kind and loving to everyone and I have fond memories of him. Always a smile and a hello! Cherish the memories and let them bring you joy. May God wrap all of you in his loving arms and grant you peace.
    Much love and many prayers,
    Pat and Lisa

  9. My daughter Jenny is married to Arvid’s grandson, Ross. We were so  impressed and grateful to God that our daughter married such an amazing kind and Christian man as Ross. After meeting his family and his grandfather Arvid I could understand why Ross is who he is. Both Arvid and his father Randy are such Christian men with so much faith. Thank you Arvid for setting such a good example. May you rest in Peace.
