Berneice Aesoph

Berneice K. Aesoph, 95, of Faulkton, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2012 at her home.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Orient with Fr. Joji Itukulapati officiating. Burial followed in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Orient. Visitation was held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Monday, April 23, 2012 at Luce Funeral Home, Faulkton with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the church in Orient.
Berneice Kathryn Baloun was born July 23, 1916 in Hyde County, South Dakota to Joseph and Josephine (Speck) Baloun. She attended rural Money Country School.
Berneice was united in marriage to Leo Aesoph on July 20, 1935. They made their home and reared their eleven children on the Aesoph Family Farm. Here Berneice kept busy with the family, helping Leo around the farm any way possible including shocking grain, tending to the garden, raising chickens and cooking. Leo passed away in October of 1969.
In the mid 1980’s Berneice relocated to Orient where she remained until moving to Faulkton in March of 2010. She spent most of her free time sewing and quilting, making sure each grandchild received one of her homemade quilts, and making jelly for family and friends each and every year as Christmas gifts.
Berneice was an example of faith, being a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Orient where she was active in altar society and the Catholic Daughters of America. She was also a member of the Orient VFW Auxiliary.
Left to cherish Berneice’s 95 years are her children: Pat (Speed) McCloud of Highmore, Bob (Marlas) of Highmore, Joan (Dick) Bent of Faulkton, Karen Kusser of Pierre, Virginia Kayser of Alexandria, SD, Jackie Aesoph of Ft. Collins, CO, David of Sioux Falls, Mike (Staci) of Highmore and Steve of Orient; daughter-in-law: Barb Bichley of Ft. Collins, CO; 37 grandchildren; 73 great grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren; one sister: Dolores (Otho) Eaton of Orient and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Jerry and Jeff; one granddaughter, Jennifer Schlechter; one great granddaughter: Sophia Schlechter; sister, Lorene Wainwright; brother, Donald Baloun; sons-in-law: Dick Kusser, Gene Kayser and Bill Heber and daughters-in-law: Tania Aesoph and Marilyn Aesoph.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Berneice's arrangements.

Our deepest condolences go out to all of you on the loss of your Mom & Grandma. She was such a sweet lady. When she spoke I always listened. What an icon she was to everyone. I missed seeing her in church when she moved to Faulkton but knew she was being well taken care of. Cherish all your good memories of Bernice. Am sure she is at rest with the angels. Sad to hear of Aunt Berneice’s passing. She has left me with some great memories and some work ethics she learned from Grandma Baloun..heaven now has 2 great ladies to keep them busy!
