December 31, 1956 ~ March 28, 2010

Carol Roy, 53, of Huron, died Sunday, March 28 at her home in Huron. Carol's memorial service will be Wednesday, March 31st at the First Presbyterian Church in Miller with Rev. Brian Jones officiating.

Carol DeHaven Roy was born December 31, 1956 in Huron to Jean and Norma (Krauter) DeHaven. She attended kindergarten through twelfth grade in Wessington, S.D.

Carol later attended Northwest College of Commerce in Huron. She married Dennis Roy on August 27, 1980 in Huron. To that union two sons were born, Mathew Roy and Michael Roy. They divorced in 1999 and Carol never remarried.

Carol was a jack-of-all trades which included construction work, managing and owning a dollar store, factory work, packing plant, and most of all, waitressing. Her latest waitressing position was at Vertos in Huron.

She loved to tease and visit with people. Most people got a kick out of her honest, but blunt attitude. Everyone always knew where they stood with her. Her interests included spending time with her boys, watching movies, softball, crafts and decorating, and listening to music.

Carol is survived by her sons, Mathew Roy of Brookings, and Michael Roy of Miller; her mother, Norma DeHaven of Wessington; four siblings, Forrest (Janis) DeHaven of Columbus, Neb., Dwan (Peter) DeGeest of Miller, Gayle (Robin) Vrooman of Miller, and Susan (Kent) Kouf of Huron; two aunts; and many cousins, nephews, and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jean DeHaven.
