Charmaine Lopez, 32, of Fort Thompson, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the Tribal Hall in Fort Thompson. Two night wake services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 6, and Friday, February 7, 2025, at the Tribal Hall in Fort Thompson. Burial will be at St. Catherine's Cemetery in Big Bend.
Charmaine Maria Lopez was born July 20, 1992 to Bonnie Sue St. John and Lance Lopez, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Her home was Fort Thompson most of her life. She attended St. Joes Indian School, Flandreau High School and graduated from Bismarck High School in a class of 463 students.
Char was a Fancy Shawl Dancer in her youth and adulthood. If you had a nickname that’s what she called you by.
She had four children: Cameron (6), Caden (16), Cyrus (10) and Cedar (8), and she loved them. She always wanted to meet her niece, India Cheyenne, (Tony’s daughter). Her nieces Aluyah Abdo, and Audrey Chynelle Jones. Nephews Carmelo Abdo and Kyler Wilson.
She loved ALL the nephews in our family. She was always loving on her nieces, telling them now beautiful they are. She loved Zaleigh.
When she was a preteen, she represented Jr. Miss Crow Creek and also Jr. Kahomi Tanka. She danced in her young adult years.
She loved all her St. Joe’s sisters, too numerous to mention.
She liked to hang out at the pow-wow grounds with all her buddies. She always talked about Sonni Flute, her friend.
She is reunited with her paternal grandparents: John Lopez and Mercedes Goodface. Her uncle Ethan Lopez, her brother Tony St. John. Charmaine loved and missed her brother Tony very much, now they are reunited.
She loved basketball – Duke Blue Devils. Her and Tony’s favorite team. Football would be the Denver Broncos.
She loved cooking and cleaning. She loved watching movies and munching out in front of the TV.
All who knew her are going to miss her.
