Clayton C. Alfson, 75, of Highmore, SD, passed away Thursday, May 6, 2010 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at Grace Bible Church, Highmore with Pastor Sheena Thomson officiating. Burial followed in the Highmore Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, May 10, 2010 followed by a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at Luze Funeral Home, Highmore.

Clayton was born on January 27, 1935 at Tulare, South Dakota to Clarence and Lillie (Miller) Alfson. In 1957, he moved to Highmore, where he married Rose Mary McWeeny in June of 1959.

Following a short time of employment with Wilbur Goldsmith, Clayton worked for Dick Straight for ten years. His love for cars then compelled him to open his own garage, which he owned and operated until his death. During that time for one year, he worked for Red Garrigan.

Clayton is survived by his wife, Rose Mary of Highmore, SD; son, Rick (Stacey) Alfson of Canton, SD; three grandchildren: Anika, Carrington and Emmerson; three sister-in-laws: Agnes (Roy) Johnson of Arizona, Dorothy (Lowell) Broberg of Washington, and Betty Schillinger of Highmore, SD; three brother-in-laws: Ted Champlin of Oklahoma, Gene McWeeny of Hot Springs, SD and Elbert (Jean) McWeeny of Mississippi; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Lillie Alfson and sister, Lila Champlin, and granddaughter, Kennedy Alfson.

Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Clayton’s arrangements.

  1. clayton, you were an amazing man and you will be greatly missed and never forgotten. you were like a father to me and you always had a hug and smile for everyone and you always could fix anything and give the best advice to everyone. i am really gonna miss you and i know that you are in heaven now with kennedy and bill and i’s kids and jim and adeline. we will miss coming to the shop and having coffee but we will see you again someday. we love and miss you uncle clayton and you will always be in our heartsa nd memories forever. love you, linda and bill

  2. Did I ever tell you. You are my hero. You will be missed so much. You always helped me get my old pickup started. You always were there with good advice. I could pull up and you always said ” what can I do for you today” Or “whats the problem” And you FIXED it. Clayton I will miss you . You were the best mechanic , friend and mentor to our boys too.
