Colette was born at home in the country to Phillip and Meta Charger on June 2, 1951 and it was on this day a very close friend of the family, Germaine, was honored with naming the baby girl and so she named her Colette Coleen. She was raised in the country with her siblings until the family relocated to LaPlant, SD. She attended school at Old Cheyenne River Agency and later attended Cheyenne Eagle Butte Boarding School to which she graduated from in May 1970.

Colette then met and married Charles Shaving and to this loving union three beautiful daughters were born: Tisha Ann, Lynelle Marie, and Tonia Lynn. Also joining the lovely home of Colette and Charlie was their grandson, Jalen Charles Shaving.

She was employed as a CHR for the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and served the Community of LaPlant both as CHR and also as a Community Caretaker. She was heavily involved with a lot of the youth activities, organizing events, and spending quality time with those she loved and cared for. Colette also served on the Tiospaye Topa School Board as well as the Cheyenne Eagle Butte School Board advocating education policies and goals. Her life was spent taking care of those she loved, providing a safe and comfortable place for all those she took in, a place to which we called home. She enjoyed spending quality time with her grandchildren whom she loved dearly, and she enjoyed visiting with family and friends.

Colette is survived by her daughters: Tisha Fast Horse of Eagle Butte, Lynelle Buffalo of Eagle Butte, and Tonia Shaving of LaPlant; 10 grandchildren who were her heart: Alisha Fast Horse, Kyle Buffalo, Charlie Buffalo, Carl Buffalo, Colton Buffalo, Katana Spotted Bear, Ky Spotted Bear, Nevaeh and Naleah Rosas, and her heart baby, Colette Coleen “CeCe” Shaving; brother, Larry Charger, Sr. of LaPlant; sisters, Delilah Charger and Winona Charger both of Eagle Butte; and numerous family members too many to name, but you know who you are.

She now joins in Heaven her husband, Charles Shaving; grandson, Rueben Fast Horse; parents, Phillip and Meta Charger; brothers, Clarence, Leonard, and Robert Charger; sisters: Anna DeHorse, Phyllis Charger and Myrna Charger; grandparents, Sam and Rosa Charger; great grandparents, Chief Waanatan and Eliza Charger.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Colette’s arrangements.
