David Lynn Salathe, 65, of Harrold, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at Avera St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre.
Memorial service will be 12:00 p.m., Saturday, February 4, 2023, at the Harrold School Gym, Pastor Shari Schwedhelm, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the gym. Burial will be at Medicine Hill Cemetery, Harrold, at a later date.
David was born June 1, 1957, in Pierre, to Raymond and Mildred (Hapney) Salathe. He graduated from Harrold High School in 1975. On February 27, 1976, he married Cindy Gluhm. They lived on the family farm and in the fall of 1976, they moved to Sturgis. He attended carpentry school and managed a cheese plant. They had three children together.
In the fall of 1992, David moved back to work on the family farm with his dad. He loved ranching, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, traveling, camping, playing darts, coaching his children in sports, and attending his grandchildren’s activities.
He is survived by his children: Jenni (Levi) Faulstich of Highmore and Jamie (Gypsie) Salathe of Harrold; grandchildren: Kaelin and Wyatt Faulstich, and Emma, Brook, Tukker, Lillian, and Callen Salathe; his parents, Ray and Millie Salathe; sisters: Debbie Ogle, Wanda Nelson, and Rita Herman; special friend, Bonnie Nickels; furry companion, Bronc; and numerous extended family.
He was preceded in death by his stillborn son, David, Jr. in August 1980; his sister, Lorna Ogle in February 2016; and grandparents, Ray and Gladys Hapney and Pearl and Jake Salathe.
Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with David's arrangements.

I am truly saddened to learn of David’s passing, and I extend my sincere sympathy to his family and friends. I can still remember running around the ranch with David when I was visiting many years ago.

My condolences to the family, his friends, and loved ones. I will miss my cousin, and have many fond memories around the farm, and hunting trip.
