Donna Jean Cassels, 88, of Faulkton went to be with the Lord on December 26, 2020 at the Faulkton Area Medical Center.

Funeral services will be10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 2, 2021, at the United Church of Faulkton with Pastor Tom Sumers officiating.  Respectfully, masks are required.  Interment will be at 1:15 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen.  The funeral service will also be live streamed on the funeral home website at www.familyfuneralhome.net

Donna Jean Wehde was born on February 8, 1932, to Andrew and Lillian (Sippel) Wehde in Britton.  She grew up on a farm, attended country school, and then graduated from Groton High School in 1950.

On June 18, 1950, Donna married Gerald “Jerry” Leon Cassels at Groton.  They were engaged in farming for 15 years.  During that time her other occupations included receptionist at a doctor’s office and a clerk in a Miller’s mercantile store.  Donna and Jerry then owned and operated Jerry’s Jack & Jill and Jerry’s Red Owl grocery stores in Groton.  In 1976 they started Cassels Motor Company in Faulkton where she was a bookkeeper.  In 1980 Donna started helping Jerry in the American Family Insurance business in Faulkton as a secretary, and for three years after his death was a crop insurance agent and helped daughter Diane in the office after she took over the agency.

Donna was a member of the United Church of Faulkton and the church women’s group, Lakeside Country Club in Faulkton as well as a past president, the Diana No. 83 OES (Eastern Star) of Groton, and the Faulkton Arts Council.  She enjoyed playing bridge and whist, crossword puzzles, watching the Twins and Vikings, watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s ballgames, 9 o’clock coffee group, sewing and making quilts for her family and the nursing home.  In her earlier years she enjoyed playing golf and bowling.

Donna is survived by her daughters, Deborah (Dennis) Bollinger, Savage, MN; Diane (DuWayne) Hushka, Faulkton; and Cheryl Cassels, Aberdeen; her son, Donald (Patsy) Cassels, Clear Lake; grandchildren: Lisa Hushka, Lori Bartels, Ryan Hushka, Devon Bakewell, Tanner Bakewell, Trevor Cassels, Justin Cassels, Matthew Cassels, step grandson Tate Pope; numerous great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Wehde; and brother-in-law, Loren Buntrock 

Donna was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brother, Robert Wehde; brothers-in-law, Eugene Cassels and Donald Cassels; and sisters-in-law, Marion Wehde, Minerva Cassels, Jane Buntrock, and Adeline Cassels.

Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Donna’s arrangements.

  2. Donna was a kind soft spoken lady, we were in Rachel Circle together.  Diane,  I’m sorry I never got to taste her delicious apple pie.

  3. I remember Donna as a very gentle, kind woman. Even when Diane and I pushed the envelope, she was always calm. I loved staying at her house.
