June 18, 1938 ~ December 9, 2020

Doris M. Schultz, 82, of Miller, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society in Miller.

A private family graveside service will be held.

Doris Mae was born on June 18, 1938 at home north of St. Lawrence, SD to Casey and Ethel (Williams) Schultz.  She graduated from Miller High School in 1956.

Doris lived in Hand County all her life except for the year she went to Rapid City to attend secretarial school.  Upon returning home, she went to work for the United States Department of Agriculture in the FmHA department.  Doris retired in 1995, after working thirty-seven years.  She was a very loyal, precise, and dedicated employer, receiving various awards and being complimented often by her supervisors for her work ethics. She used her excellent shorthand skills long after she retired.

She volunteered her time to the many organizations she belonged to. Helping with bingo at Good Samaritan Center and Courtyard Villa was a weekly outing for many years until her health stopped her from going.  She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary.

Playing cards, Bunco and dining out with her friends were Doris’ greatest joys.  Her greatest lessons in life included: never hold grudges, be calm, and do not show anger.

Doris is survived by her sister, Dorothy Dickert, SC; brother, Donald "Casey" (Luella) Schultz, Miller; close nieces and nephews: Barb (Willie) Hasart, St. Lawrence, Jim (Marilyn) Krick, Highmore, Terry Krick and Jenise Krick, both of Miller; brother-in-law, Bruce (Marilyn) Groves, AZ; along with many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Phyllis Groves and Jean Krick; brother, Dale Schultz; and brothers-in-law: Jim Krick and Dick Dickert.

Memorials may be directed to Avera Hand County Hospital, 300 W. 5th St., Miller, SD 57362, Good Samaritan Center, 421 E 4th Ave, Miller, SD 57362 or Rustler Roost, 623 E 4th St, Miller, SD 57362.

  4. Doris has been a dear friend over the years since we were both 12 year students at Miller School. Doris was always kind, loyal, and a super-planner. She was an important part of the committee that planned the 50th Reunion of the class of 1956 trip via Amtrak to Snohomish, WA, to be held at the Lowell and Patty Warren home. That trip was a wonderful memory and we were all even better friends on the trip home. The Class of 1956 will miss Doris Mae.

  5. Sorry about Doris' death. She will be missed by all that knew. She was the one that let all of the class of '56 know what was going with any of them. Her family is in our prayers. We are donating to the Rustler Roost. That is a wonderful program for the kids after school that would be going home to an empty house. Our prayers Joan & Donnie Joy
