Dorothy Mae Gregory was born February 9, 1916 to Charles and Eva (Streeter) Gregory in Oldham, SD. At the age of 7 she lost her mother and she and her siblings were split up. She was adopted by an aunt and uncle, William and Helen Streeter several years later. She graduated from Oldham High School.
On April 2, 1936 Dorothy married William Stevens and moved to South Hand. Here they raised two sons, Donald and Kenneth. Dorothy worked hard on the farm. When they retired in 1977 and moved to town, she found work to do there also. She cleaned houses and worked in her son’s catalog stores along with the pizza shop. She finally retired at the age of 93. Bill and Dorothy loved playing cards with the neighbors and going to dances. She enjoyed crocheting and never sat idle for long. Win or lose she was an avid Twins fan and enjoyed going to the Twins stadium at the age of 80. Dorothy loved spending time with her family and eagerly bragged about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to anyone who would listen. She often boasted about her age and always looked forward to her next birthday.
Thankful for having shared her life are her children: Donald (Jeanice) Stevens of St. Lawrence and Kenneth (Kris) Stevens of Miller; five grandchildren: Denise (Todd) Mack, Thad (Laura) Stevens, Brett (Roxanne) Stevens, Mistelle (Chris) Christenson and Aaron (Megan) Stevens; 9 great- grandchildren: Erica (Chris) Raba, Tori Knippling (Cody Roettele), Kathleen Ballinger, Dakota Stevens and Wesley Stevens, Lauryn and Chad Stevens, Carter and Kennedy Christenson; two great-great grandchildren: Avery and Kayleigh; 4 step grandchildren; sister-in-law Dorothy Streeter and numerous step great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and beloved husband, William; brothers: George Streeter, and Donald Streeter Smith; sister, Grace Hazel; and adopted brother and sister, Gordon Streeter and Bercyle Everson.
A special thank you to the caregivers and staff of the Good Samaritan Center for the care and love you gave Dorothy. It made her feel “at home” for the last 4 1/2 years and was greatly appreciated by her family.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Dorothy’s arrangements.
