Dot Cecilia Deuter was born on October 9, 1942, to Franklin and Myrtle Deuter in Ree Heights. She was the last of ten children. Dot lived her entire life in the Ree Heights area.

On January 2, 1963, she married Allen W. Hanson. Together they raised three children: Richard Arthur, Amy Louise and Debra Jean.

Dot found great joy in caring for others. She spent many years taking care of the elderly and sick people in the area as they transitioned from the earthly world to eternal life. She had a way of knowing what each person needed and the words and ways to comfort them.

Dot loved making quilts for her children, grandchildren, extended family and friends. She made every quilt with love and prayer. It was more than a blanket that she gave away, it was a little piece of her.

Dot had a way of making everyone feel welcome. After the first visit as a guest, you became family. Many people quickly related to her as “Mama Dot” or “Grandma Dot”. Her favorite motto to everyone that walked through her door was, “God helps those that help themselves.”

Faith and family were her priorities. Dot always had a rosary in her pocket if it wasn’t in her hands. She wore out rosaries from praying them so much. She said prayers for anyone and everyone knowing in the end that “Thy Will Be Done”.  Her kids and grandkids were the highlight of her life. She took so much pride in all their accomplishments and was always in the bleachers as their biggest fan. The amazing relationship between her and her kids, grandkids and great grandson was visible to all.

Those left to cherish her life are her husband, Allen of Ree Heights; her children: Rick (Cindy) Hanson, Spearfish, SD; Amy (Lance) Hertel, Pierre, SD; Deb (Rob) Litzen, Tolstoy, SD; grandchildren: Megan (Aaron) Stevens, Miller, SD, Morgan (Austin) Weyers, Hay Springs, NE, Sierra Wieseler, Hoven, SD, Autumn Wieseler (fiance’ Tanner Storer), Gettysburg, SD, Colt Wieseler, Tolstoy, SD, Kea Cronin, Tolstoy, SD; great grandson, Coy Wieseler, Hoven, SD; siblings: Helen McKay, Sioux Falls, SD, Betty Deuter, Ree Heights, SD, Johnny (Pat) Deuter, Brandon, SD, Cookie (Dean) Hyde, Pierre SD; sister in-laws: Sandra (Earl) Truxton, Edgemont, SD, Nancy Taylor, Miller, SD; brother-in-law, Roger (Julie) Hanson, Gettysburg, SD; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Franklin and Myrtle Deuter; siblings: Buster (Lois) Deuter, Donald (Ethel) Deuter, Dick (Violet) Deuter, Bethene Ray, and Maxene Deuter;  her father and mother-in-law: Lyman and Louise Hanson; sister-in-law, Becky Truxton; brothers-in-law: Robert Hanson and Dick Taylor; and son-in-law, Justin Cronin.
