Emmett Schad
May 4, 1984 ~ July 7, 2011
Emmett Reese Schad, 27, of Taylorsville, UT, and formerly of Eagle Butte, made the journey back to his Heavenly Father and to his loved ones who have gone before—his grandparents, father, uncles, and aunts, on Thursday, July 7, 2011.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. MDT, Friday, July 15, 2011 at the LDS Mormon Church, Eagle Butte with Inu Inukiha’ A Gona officiating. Burial followed at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Laplant. An all night wake began at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 14, 2011 at the HVJ Cultural Center in Eagle Butte.
Born in Eagle Butte, SD to Monte Schad and Eleanor Iron Lightning, Emmett grew up in South Dakota and later moved with his mother to Salt Lake City. He lived at various times in South Dakota and Utah. At the time of his death he was employed by Deseret Industries in Murray, UT.
Emmett made friends easily and loved to joke and laugh with people. He also had a compassionate side that could sometimes be seen as a weakness. He was generous and loving, volunteering his time to the elderly and the fatherless. When it came to people he was colorblind. He loved to buy things for his brothers and take people out to eat. That was his way of showing his affection for his loved ones.
He loved his older brother Robin and his younger brother Dylan. He treated his cousins like siblings and his nieces and nephews like children of his own. (When Robin was about to become a father, it was Emmett who took a parenting class.) In 2007 he married Ann (Nancy) Alisa in a traditional wedding performed by Arvol Looking Horse at Green Grass, SD.
Emmett is survived by his mother, Eleanor Iron Lightning of Taylorsville; brothers: Robin Iron Lightning (Marla) of Bismarck, ND and Dylan Iron Lightning of the home; wife, Nancy Alisa Schad of Kearns; his aunts: Dale Charging Cloud, Sharon Swift Bird and Connie Corwitt; uncles: Garland Iron Lightning, Ralph Schad of Rapid City, Corey Schad, Charles Schad, Sylvester Schad, Jr. and John D. Schad all of Eagle Butte; grandmothers: Lavinia Eagle Chasing, Pauline A. Eagle Chasing, Carmalita Eagle Chasing, Delvina Morrison, Cordelia (Iron Lightning) Dupris and Vernonica (Iron Lightning) Eagle Chasing.
He is preceded in death by his father; maternal grandparents, Grant Iron Lightning, Jr. and Genevieve (Eagle Chasing/Straighthead) Swift Bird; paternal grandparents, Sylvester and Theola (Holy Bear) Schad; great grandmother, Margaret Morrison; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Luce Funeral Chapel of Eagle Butte has been entrusted with Emmett's arrangements.
