Ernest Oliver LaBlanc, 79, of Eagle Butte, passed away Monday, January 13, 2020 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. MST, Monday, January 20, 2020 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte. Burial, with military honors, followed in the Eagle Butte Cemetery. A wake service was held at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, January 19, 2020 at the church, with a procession from the 4-mile at 4:00 p.m.

Uncle Oliver was born at the Old Cheyenne Agency to Edward LaBlanc and Juanita (Useful Heart) LaBlanc. He went to the military and received his GED.

Oliver worked for various farmers and ranchers in the area. He was a long-haul truck driver, and then he worked for Indian Health Services as a custodian for many years until his retirement.

His first marriage was to Lorraine Hayes and in this marriage, there were two children, Sharon and Jerrod LaBlanc. A second marriage was to Katie Traversie.

After retirement, his favorite pastime was mowing lawns and hanging out at the Plain’s Clothing Store with Shawn Boehrs.

Survivors include his sister, Charlotte LaBlanc; brother, Dion Young; grandson, Anthony (Chasity) LaBlanc and great grandchildren: Angel, Precious, Angelina and one on the way of Ogden, UT; granddaughter, Stephanie LaBlanc and great grandchildren: Izaya Martinez, Dominic LaBlanc and one on the way of Ogden, UT; and many nieces and nephews.

Oliver is preceded in death by his brothers: Robert, Phillip “Roy” and Melvin; sisters: Isabel, Josephine, Ethel, Lillian, Theresa, Emmaline, and Darlene.

Luce Funeral Chapel of Eagle Butte has been entrusted with Earnest's arrangements.
