Estella Susie (Westphal) Putney, 87, of Faulkton Healthcare Center, Faulkton, South Dakota, formerly of Robbinsdale, MN passed away Friday, January 12, 2007 at the Faulkton Healthcare Center, Faulkton.

A celebration of life service was held at 10:30a.m., Tuesday, January 16 at the United Church of Faulkton with Rev. Mike Ward officiating. Burial was in the Onida Cemetery. Visitation was from 3 – 7 p.m. with a 7p.m. prayer service, Monday at Luce Funeral Home, Faulkton.

Estella was born on a homestead near Agar, South Dakota on July 18, 1919 the third daughter of Gustave T. and Anna (Bierman) Westphal.

Estella attended school in Agar, and after high school attended Nurses Training in Mitchell, South Dakota. Upon graduation in 1941, she started her nursing career in Willmar, Minnesota. She married Raymond F. Putney on March 23, 1947, and moved to Minneapolis where she continued her nursing career at the Sister Kenny Hospital, in rehabilitation for polio patients, stroke victims, and patients suffering from accident disabilities. She remained working at the Sister Kenny Hospital throughout her career until retirement in 1981.

Estella was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ray in 1973, one brother, Eugene Westphal, and two sisters, Lucille Long and Alvina Wagner. She is survived by one brother, Kenneth Westphal, and four sisters, Dolores Wagner, Violet Zwickl, Bernice King, and Shirley McGilvery, many nieces, nephews and cousins, who will miss her very much, along with her beautiful smile.
