Evelyn Rose Schaefer was born on April 15, 1921 in Hoven, SD to Pete and Mary (Simon) Schaefer. She attended country school, Hoven Grade School and Lebanon High School, graduating in 1939. She then attended the National Youth Administration School in Lebanon where she also worked as a bookkeeper. Later Evelyn clerked in the Lebanon Post Office. Evelyn married Donavon Jerome Schneider on September 16, 1941 at St. Mary’s Church in Lebanon. They lived on a farm on the south side of Lebanon and later purchased a ranch on the east edge of Lebanon. Evelyn was an active homemaker, farm wife and mother of four. She was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s and Sacred Heart Catholic Churches. She was a member of the Gettysburg Country Club.
Evelyn enjoyed watching all sports even after her kids and grandkids were no longer participating. She loved going to dances and playing cards with friends. Evelyn especially enjoyed the outdoors: time spent maintaining a beautiful green lawn, flowers, and garden. She was well known for her canning and pickling abilities, making the best dill pickles in the world. Evelyn also baked the most delicious pies for family and friends. Evelyn is survived by 4 children: Monte (Judi), Dick (Robbie), Ron, and Sharon (Stan) Spitzer. Grandchildren: Michelle (Ken) Flannery, Jennifer (Kevin) Bertalot, Michael (Susan), Steve (Andrea), Joseph, Matthew and Andrew Schneider, Michael (Amber) Schwingler, Mindy (Kyle) Rossow, Chad (Misty) Spitzer, Rhonda (Tony) Geditz. She has 22 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Albert and Leonard, sister Delores Medberry and grandson Mark.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to the Sacred Heart Church Parish Hall building fund.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Evelyn's arrangements.

To Evelyn’s Family;
Please accept our sincere condolences on the loss of your mother. In reading her obituary one can see that she was a loving mother and wife. God bless her.
“A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts”. -Washington Irving
