Frances A. Gutenkauf, 99, of Faulkton, passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at the Faulkton Healthcare Center.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 10, 2011 at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Faulkton with Father Joji Itukulapati, celebrant.  Burial followed at St. Boniface Cemetery, Seneca.  Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 9, 2011 with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, all at the church.

Frances was born June 16, 1912 to Peter and Katherine (Schaefer) Simon in Hoven.  She received her education in Hoven and married Lawrence Gutenkauf at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hoven on June 5, 1931.  They farmed near Seneca until retiring to Faulkton in 1978.  Frances enjoyed gardening and was known to have quite a “green thumb”.  She also enjoyed crocheting, stitchery and attending the senior center.  She was an active member in the Altar Society at St. Boniface in Seneca and St. Thomas in Faulkton.

Survivors include three sons: Arthur (Joan) Gutenkauf, Kenneth Gutenkauf, both of Faulkton and James (Lynn) Gutenkauf of Billings, MT; two daughters: Dolores (John) Gauer of Sioux Falls and Dorothy (Bob) Smith of Frederick; 13 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence; two brothers: Hubert and Bill Simon; three sisters: Leona Gutenkauf, Mildred Wiebel and Tracey Baden; and one daughter-in-law: Anneliese Gutenkauf.

Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Frances’ arrangements.
