Francis Paul Shaving “Papa Fatts” was born on January 31, 1964, in Virgin Creek, SD to Paul and Grace (Useful Heart) Shaving. He was the youngest of seven children, the baby brother to Charlie, Jennie, Mike, Jaws, Rita, and Sonya.
Francis attended grade school at Swiftbird Day School, junior high in Eagle Butte, then graduated from Crow Creek High School in 1982. He was their lifelong #1 Crow Creek Chieftain fan. In May 1986, he graduated from Presentation College in Aberdeen, SD with an Associate in Business Administration. He was also a lifelong fan of the San Francisco 49ers.
He worked as the bookkeeper for the CRST Job Training Program from 1995-2007, file clerk in the CRST Prosecutor’s office in 2005-2006, and bookkeeper/office manager at the CRST Game, Fish, & Parks from March 2011 until his passing. He enjoyed his job to the fullest. Francis was a very intelligent, humble individual.
“Ake” was something he said a lot. He sure did have a way of making you laugh from screaming “GO CHIEFTAINS!” to having a nickname for everyone he made contact with. He enjoyed listening to music and doing crossword puzzles. He was the center of every family gathering, and no matter the situation you always heard someone laughing. He always made sure everyone had full bellies. His humor, his generosity for his loved ones, his love for his nephews, nieces, grandbabies, and great grandbabies, and those phone calls, checking on his nephews, nieces, and grandbabies will truly be missed.
Francis is survived by his siblings: Jennie LeBeau, Michael Shaving, and Rita Shaving of Eagle Butte, SD, Sonya Shaving of Fort Yates, ND, Norma Shaving of LaPlant, SD, and Juanita Zephier of Eagle Butte, SD; sister-in-law, Madeline “Joyce” Handboy of Eagle Butte, SD; nephews: Mark Shaving, Randy Swimmer, Rodney Shaving, Patrick Tapio, Denton Shaving, Markus Laundreaux, and Jalen Shaving; nieces: Lynelle Buffalo, Kym Swimmer, Waushara (Dominic) Tapio, Gracie Shaving, Sara Shaving, Jeannie (Derek) LeClaire, Marisa Laundreaux, and Michon Shaving; grandbabies: Alisha, Kyle, Charlie, Carl, Colton, Naleah, Naveah, Cece, J’Den, Bubba (Traci), Markee Rae, Alexius, Creighton, Reegen, Markus Jr., Gwyneth, Eli, Phoebe, Kayla, Gia, Daecia, Bryant, Amiyah, Jace, Kayle, Ayden, Dexton, Maleigha, Kayliana, Dariana, D’Jai, Hailey Jo, Jae Marie, Gracelynn, Devlynn, Nova, and Zoe; and great-grandbabies: Jaeson, Jaeleigh, Tayleigh, Evan, Kenley, and Astrid.

No longer in any pain Uncle..will always carry on the memories of you..the Little Red Corvette by Prince..and BabyFace, When Can I See You Again, only you will understand. Until I see you again Uncle Fatts, I love you ❤️
Rest easy Francis. We will see you down the road. You were always a kindhearted person from Ole LaPlant. Many memories of seeing you everywhere down that way. Condolences to your family. Take care.
Yesterday afternoon I received some good news. And the good news was that you have gone to be with God. I cried tears of joy, knowing you are no longer in pain anymore. Doc’s gave you days but God extended time, and when he seen that it was time for you to defeat that sickness. He came and took you by the hand and led you on your victory lap Uncle Fats. You will be forever missed. But it was your time to walk streets that match your golden heart. Where God is not far. Singing glory to the most high with all of our loved ones up above. One day I will get there too. Until they day, Uncle Fats I promise to make sure your story is told. And your memory lives on through all of us. I love you Uncle Fats, rest high on that mountain. You earned it.. love always. Patty Tap

Hey Francis, I remember when we used to go to town dam and we'd take our shoes off and slide around on the ice. Damn we were some crazy kid's 😂 The last time I saw you was at our own LTM Express LaPlant and you were telling me about your vehicle. The last time I talked to you was when you were at work. Always doing your job get things done. Smart man. We went to school together at Swiftbird Day School with 'Dugan' can you tell him I said Hi and there are some special little girl's in my care and they need to be watched over if he isn't already. The time we rode on a ride at the carnival was so funny 🤣 Everyone laughed when you were joking about grabbing our wigs when the ride started moving. But I was pregnant and tried not to show it. Much like you tried not to show you were sick each time we talked and saw each other. You will be missed Francis. What made you extra special to me was you had my Dad's name. Also let him know I love him too. Until we meet again💞🙏
