Glenn Joseph Bode was born on December 10, 1944, in Aberdeen, SD to Fred and Catherine (Blando) Bode. From the age of three he has been a Faulk County resident. Glenn graduated from Faulkton High School in 1962 and then attended technical school in Wahpeton, ND. He entered the US Army in December of 1965 and served his country with honor before returning home to farm and to raise a family in the community he loved.
Glenn lived his life prioritizing faith, family, and hard work. A proud farmer, Glenn found purpose in working the land and instilled the same values of dedication and perseverance in his children. He was more than a provider — he was a steady presence, a wise mentor, and a devoted father and grandfather.
He enjoyed trap shooting, hunting, caring for animals of any kind, watching and supporting his grandkids in their various activities, and taking road trips in the wide-open spaces, especially in South Dakota. Glenn was a strong supporter of 4-H and coached shooting sports for several years. He served 30 years on the LaFoon Township Board, was secretary/treasurer for the Faulk County Predator Control District, a 16 year board member for the Faulkton Farmers Elevator/North Central Elevator, a member of the American Legion, and a life-long member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
Glenn married Gloria Wright on August 9, 1974, at St. Thomas Church. They shared 50+ years together raising their three sons. Gloria was Glenn’s steadfast companion. Their bond was one of mutual respect, deep affection, and unwavering support. His three sons, John, Matt, and Adam were Glenn’s greatest pride and joy. His love of family, gentle strength, and resolve live on as his legacy in his sons and their families.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Gloria, his children: John (Heather) Bode of Faulkton, Matt (Darchelle) Bode of Sioux Falls, and Adam (Jessica) Bode of Aberdeen, grandchildren: Parker, Foster, Austin, Blakely, Henry, and Nora. Brothers and sisters-in-law include Art and Gayle Donovan, Ron and Glenda Balthazor, Gary and LuAnn Wright, and Glenn and Kay Wright, all of Sioux Falls and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Catherine Bode, his brother Fred Bode and his wife, Jean, and many aunts and uncles.
We wish to thank Drs. Ken Bartholomew and Sylvia Anderson, as well as the staff, both clinic and hospital, of FAMC for their wonderful care while Glenn was their patient. We are blessed here in Faulkton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Faulkton Area Medical Center Foundation Dr. Ken and Twyla Bartholomew Scholarship.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Glenn’s arrangements.
