Gloria Renae (Baloun) Hansen, 68, of Sioux Falls, and formerly of Redfield, SD passed away Thursday, March 3, 2022, in Sioux Falls.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 10, 2022, at St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church, Faulkton, with Fr. Randy Phillips presiding. Wake service will be 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at Luce Funeral Home, Faulkton with visitation one-hour prior.
Gloria Renae Baloun was born September 24, 1953 in Faulkton, SD to Reg and Elsie (Martz) Baloun. She graduated from Faulkton High School in 1971.
Gloria loved helping people and that was evident in the career path she selected. She attended Presentation College in Aberdeen, SD and graduated with her Nursing degree. She worked at Dakota Midland hospital and Rapid City Surgical Center prior to shifting her focus to her family and raising her 3 children, Nichole, Adam, and Eric. All while raising her 3 children, Gloria maintained her nursing license for the next 30 years assisting others when nursing needs arose. Gloria was heavily involved in her children’s numerous activities and enjoyed every minute of their years growing up. Whether it was 4-H, sporting events, or band/vocal concerts, Gloria was her children's #1 fan (and later grandchildren) and instilled in them a passion to work hard, continue learning, and enjoy life.
Gloria was active and passionate with many other activities and hobbies throughout her years. She was a very religious individual from birth to passing and involved in the Catholic Church through the years, as a member of St. Ann (Frankfort), St. Bernard (Redfield), and Holy Spirit (Sioux Falls). Gloria’s baking was legendary and many full stomachs can thank her for the Bohemian, Danish, and American dishes she prepared with love. Another passion of Gloria’s was taking care of her animals. She had a special way with them and loved caring for her cattle, dogs, and cats to name a few. If you ever wanted to hear a good story, pull up a chair and be prepared to be entertained as Gloria continued the Baloun tradition of entertaining through stories and the laughter that would go on and on. Music could always be heard in her home or car as the Golden Oldies and Christian music were her favorites.
Gloria is survived by her children: Nichole (San) Chhen of Sioux Falls, SD, Adam (Jordann) Hansen of Redfield, SD, and Eric (Rachel) Hansen of Sioux Falls, SD; Grandchildren blessed to call her GG (Grandma Gloria) include: Savannah, Siah, and Noah Chhen of Sioux Falls, Carter, Callen, and Cambree Hansen of Redfield, and Avery and Harper Hansen of Sioux Falls; siblings of Gloria include: Eugene (Dianne) Baloun of Seneca, SD, Yvonne (Ken) O'Connor of Prescott, AZ, Terry (Sheryl) Baloun of Sioux Falls, SD, and Brad (CamMay) Baloun of Sioux Falls, SD; and brother-in-law, Gordon Bauhs of Fort Collins, CO.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Reg and Elsie; brother Daryl; sister Darleen; and nephews Tate and Justin.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to be made in Gloria’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association South Dakota, 4304 S Technology Dr, Sioux Falls, SD 57106 or online at https://act.alz.org
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Gloria’s arrangements.

Dear Nichole, Adam, Eric and all,
I am so very sorry about the death of your adored Gloria! Please accept my sincere condolences. Your mom was a remarkable force of nature! She loved all of you, her family, and friends with a beautiful fierceness. Her deep intelligence and unending compassion were obvious in the ways she conducted herself. She was uniquely wonderful!
Our friendship was enduringly genuine. I loved her. How could I not? We are Bohemians!!!
Many blessings to all. May you find comfort in the love sent your way. May your cherished Gloria reside in brilliance. Much love- Tracy, Pat, and the tribe!
Dear Nichole, Adam, Eric and all: Sending you a huge hug and wishes that you find comfort and peace at this difficult time. Your Mom was simply amazing. Her kindness knew no bounds. I remember how she sent me a birthday card every year–saying we had to "stick together" as two of the family's only September birthdays. As I grew older, the cards got racier, funnier, and even more memorable! 🙂 And she would often send me something "I found just for you, Mel"–a rosary, an angel, or a little sapphire birthstone. Your Mom had the biggest heart. She made me and so many others feel special and loved–through her endless thoughtfulness. I miss her. And I know that now, she's taken her place with the other angels. Much love to you all!
I have good memories of Gloria from our childhood, high school and Presentation College years. She had an irresistible charisma that drew people to her. She did love, with a fierceness. I’m so sorry to hear of the suffering that she and the family experienced in the last years. Dementia is a cruel disease. Blessed are you who weep and mourn, for one day you shall laugh.
May she and your family be at peace.

It was always nice to see her out and about when we were adults to talk about our kids and grandkids. She will be greatly missed truly an angel above to watch over her family

Gloria was a lovely neighbor and nursing colleague for a brief time when we lived near Piedmont. We shared recipes and child rearing tips and had many laughs. We also shared stories of times and people we both knew in Highmore. Bob and I were saddened to hear of your loss.
May your happy memories carry you through this sad time.
I am so very sorry to hear of Gloria's passing. It had been many years since our last visit, but I have wonderful memories of high school. We would have a grand time, singing and dancing, at my Aunt Marcella (O'Meara's home), where Gloria stayed during the school year. She always had a smile, a laugh, and a story to share with everyone!
I am so sorry for your loss…saying prayers in her memory and for her family.
Nichole, Adam and Eric,
Words cannot express how deeply saddened I am. My heart breaks for you kids and your families!!!! Aunt Gloria was SO important to me! I will ALWAYS hold a special place for her in my heart. She will always be the woman I strive to be like. She was kind, hard working, always put family first, selfless, compassionate, empathetic, beautiful, caring, smart, funny, and had the absolute BIGGEST heart of anyone I have ever met! I could go on and on…. I am grateful to have had her in my life!! I love you all!!
Saying goodbye to someone we love is heartbreaking. Dementia is so cruel. May you find comfort in all the cherished, special, fun memories shared with her. She has left us too early. She was such a vibrant person. We hold so many fond memories when she stayed at Barb's Grandmother's home (Marcella O'Meara) while attending high school and then when she was at Presentation and Barb was at Northern. What fun!! Hugs to all and do not forget those memories…
Sorry to hear of your Mom's passing.
Eric – I am so so sorry to hear about this! Know my prayers and thoughts are with you and your family now! I did not know your mother, but if she was anything like you, she was an amazing person! Prayers for peace and comfort for you and your family!
I remember before i was in kindergarten my mom taking me to ellisville country school at recess to play with the kids. I had a crush on an 8th grade girl with long black hair. Gloria became a life long friend and glad I got to give her a Hug the last time I saw her. RIP my friend.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all and will continue to be-Gloria was as kind as she was beautiful. May God grant you comfort, strength and peace in the days ahead.
Please accept our deepest condolences on the passing of Gloria. She was a source of smiles and laughter each time we saw her. We have so many fun memories of her giving Terry a hard time, or sharing her updates about her kids / our cousins. There was never a dull moment and we’ll treasure every minute she was in our lives. Love, Shad and Danielle Baloun
I am so sorry to hear this news. Deepest thoughts and sympathy to you all! I am some great memories of Gloria! Prayers to you during this difficult time.
Nicole, Adam, Eric and family, our deepest sympathy on you mother and grandmother death. She was always so welcoming to the strays from MN. We will always remember having her insisting we have one last bite to eat before heading home. We will always be great full for her hospitality.
So sorry to read of her passing, it was a surprise. I knew her through the church in Redfield. She was always greeting one with a warm smile and with sincere love for others. She loved the lord and had so much faith. She definitely loved her family.
Dearest Nichole, Adam, and Eric – I am profoundly saddened by the passing of your Mom, my beloved Aunt Glory. My heart goes out to you all and your children at this very difficult time. Simply put, your Mom was the best that this life has to offer. She was kind, giving, strong, thoughtful, loving, funny, and full of energy. Her energetic nature lead to my Dad's fond nickname for her, "Ting Ting", which of course she loved. Her deeply rooted faith was reflected in her daily life and whenever I had the chance to see her, she would often give me trinkets as a reminder of God's presence. I still have her angel clip in my car to protect me while driving. I hope you will all take comfort in knowing she is at peace in God's kingdom even though we miss her dearly. All my love, cousin Heather
My heart will always be full when I think of the many childhood memories and positive energy Gloria provided. A wonderful role model with a contagious smile. We had an opportunity to catch up about 8 years ago and we picked up right where we left off. She was a bright light of love and will be missed by so many. 🙏🏻 Kim
My sincere sympathy to Nicole, Adam, Eric and families. You are in my thoughts and prayers. It was a shock to hear of your dear Mother's passing.
Dear Nichole, Adam, Eric and siblings. I am so saddened by Gloria's passing. She truly was a Proverbs 31 woman and one of my favorite cousins. Thinking of you all at this time. Connie
