Hailey Cook

Hailey Mia Cook, 18, of Eagle Butte, entered the spirit world, Sunday, March 14, 2021 in Mitchell, SD.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., MDT, Saturday, March 27, 2021 at the CRST Bingo Hall, Eagle Butte. Burial will follow at St. Mark’s Cemetery, Red Scaffold. A wake will be 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 26, 2021, at the Bingo Hall, with a procession from the 4-mile east of town at 4:00 p.m.

Hailey Mia Cook was born August 28, 2002 in Pierre, SD to Ian Cook Widow and Colleen Chips. She received her education in Omaha, NE, Lower Brule, Eagle Butte, and graduated from Mitchell in 2020.

Her brothers and sisters were the world to Hailey. She was the glue that kept them together and in touch, as well as the one to always comfort them. She was always on her brothers to be good, and she would keep them in check when they did wrong. She was a beautiful person inside and out and her laugh was out of this world. She was so happy and full of life.

Growing up, Hailey enjoyed time playing basketball and being a pow wow dancer, competing in the jingle dress and fancy shawl. Spending time with family, especially Kailey and Jordan Carter and Keonna and Tyrese Red Bear, was such a treasured time for her.

Those left to cherish Hailey’s life are her parents: Ian Cook Widow, Eagle Butte and Colleen Chips Kamil, Omaha, NE; her siblings: Wallace, Isaac, Maliki, Ayana, and Athina Cook, Elmyra, Kambriya Tamoya, Kamila Chips, Carlos Escobar, Sollie Chips, Cyrus Wounded Knee, Armani Kamil, Yasin “Pumpkin” Kamil, and Aubrey and Adrianne Butcher; grandparents: Jamie Morrison, Benita Clark, Veronica Holy, Cynthia Cook, Jay Cook, Lyle Cook, Cyril Cook, Wakiyan Peta, Nadine Widow Shaving, Edwin Widow, and Edmund Widow; great grandfather, Edward Widow; aunts: Elaine “Nikki” Cook, Mia Grace, Sarah Widow, Christine (Jeshua) Estes, and Roxy Widow; uncles: Keaton Widow, Julian Chips, Dion Blue Earth, Durial Widow, and Ferland Carter; numerous cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Alec Wounded Knee; great grandparents: Delma Widow and James and Amelia Morrison; grandparents: Wallace Anthony Cook and Norma Mary Widow, Darwin Cook, Michael Morrison, Joel Morrison, Cecelia Cook Reddog, Narcisse Widow, Nordvold Widow; uncles and aunts: Leon “Boss” Reddog, Chelsea Morrison, Tiffany Widow Shaving, Collins Holy, Jesse Wallace Cook, Wyatt Waters, Corey Wallace Holy, Dondrell Malcolm Buffalo; and cousins: Marcus Antonio and Germaine Morrison.
