Helen Hrdlicka, 93, of Miller, passed away Monday, January 21, 2013 at Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital, Miller.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 25, 2013 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Miller with Father Chester Murtha, celebrant. Burial followed at G.A.R. Cemetery, Miller.  Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2013 with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, all at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Miller.

Helen was born January 26, 1919 to Emil and Rose (Petrik) Chytka in Wagner, South Dakota.  She attended school through the 8th grade.  She lived in southern and central South Dakota before residing in Miller the remaining portion of her life.  On August 23, 1955, she married Lawrence T. Hrdlicka in Luverne, Minnesota.  She worked as a cook at Lips Café for 23 years before retiring at the age of 79.  Her family was her pride and joy.  She loved cooking, gardening and anything from raising chickens, picking geese and milking cows. 

Her memory will be cherished by her husband, Lawrence of Miller; her nine children: Jean (Lloyd) Myears of Green Ridge, Missouri, Ed (Shirley) Sell of Miller, Larry (Donna) Sell of Redfield, Sharon (Jim) Davis of Rockham, Shirley (Robert) Peterman of Miller, Robert Sell of St. Lawrence, Linda (Rich) Clark of Gettysburg, Tina (Bob) Danielson of Miller and Diane (Tim) Goetz of Miller; two sisters: Rose (Henry) Prien of Tripp and Emily Vandemheen of Florida; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and many grand dogs.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers and one step-brother.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Helen’s arrangements.

    I have not seen aunt Helen in a few years but I will always remember the good times we had at grandma’s apartment.
