Holden Neigel, 35, of Eagle Butte, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at his home.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. MST, Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at All Saints Catholic Church, Eagle Butte with Fr. John Paul Trask presiding. Burial will follow in the Eagle Butte Cemetery.Β  A wake service will be 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the church, with a procession from the 4-Mile at 4:00 p.m.

Holden was born on May 16, 1990, in Pierre, South Dakota, to Dennis and Elaine (Elder) Neigel.

He was raised in Eagle Butte and attended Cheyenne Eagle Butte School throughout his school years, graduating in 2008. During his time in school, he played football and basketball and formed friendships that would last a lifetime. After high school, Holden was accepted to Western Dakota Tech and moved to Rapid City, where he earned a degree in Business Management and Marketing in 2010.

At age 14, Holden started his first job working as a cashier at the Eagle Stop.Β  Following graduation, Holden returned home to Eagle Butte and dedicated the next 10 years of his life to working at Four Bands Community Fund. During his time there, he played an integral role in launching the IDA program, supporting home renovation lending, and helping small businesses grow. Holden truly loved his work and took pride in helping people in his community. Holden was also a key employee working with his parents in their Hometown Furniture Business, unloading trucks and delivering furniture. He was only a phone call away and usually showed up in minutes to help when needed.Β  After leaving Four Bands, he worked alongside Dale Lesmeister, assisting with his businesses until the time of his passing. Holden enjoyed visiting with friends at the car wash or Vendings, and he was always quick with a friendly greeting and a witty remark.

Outside of work, Holden maintained an active social life and was deeply involved in the community. He participated in Legion pool and dart leagues and enjoyed spending time with friends. One of his proudest accomplishments was winning the SDABA Pool Championship with his team, the Night Shooters. He was also a dedicated member of the Legion dart team and attended the South Dakota State Dart Tournament for the past three years. As team captain, Holden led with encouragement and pride, always motivating his teammates to succeed.

Holden was also a committed, third-generation member of the Eagle Butte Volunteer Fire Department, often the first to respond when a call came in. He never missed helping with the Fourth of July fireworks displayβ€”if something needed to be done, Holden was always there. A lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Atlanta Braves, he was always ready for friendly trash talk, especially with his brothers.

Holden is survived by his parents, Dennis and Elaine Neigel of Eagle Butte; his three younger brothers, Hayden (Ashley) Neigel, Harley (Lexi) Neigel, both of Eagle Butte, and Hudson Neigel of Spearfish, South Dakota; nieces, Rory Neigel, Suni and Rowie Bowman; nephew, Duke Neigel; uncles: Allan Elder, Ronnie (Evelyn) Neigel, Bobby Neigel, and Jack (Melissa) Neigel; aunts Shari Neigel, Jenny (Mick) Joens, Dianne Thomas, Barb (Jeff) Jensen, and Carol (James) Reh; numerous cousins; friends who became family: Nolan and Bailey Keckler, DJ and Brianna Hunter, Chad Morgan, Brandee Jewett, Terri Jo Haskell, Jessica Haskell, and nephews Acen, Huxen, Tripp, and Grant.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Raymond Neigel, Rosetta Neigel Simon, Kenneth Simon, and Gilbert and Genieve Elder; aunts, Bonnie Boysen and Darlene Elder; uncles: Raymond Neigel, Jeff Thomas, Francis Elder, and Bernie Boysen; and his beloved dog, Huck.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Holden’s arrangements.
