Jacque McDonnell
July 10, 1954 ~ April 6, 2023
Jacque McDonnell, 68, of Highmore, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Avera St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre after a long batter with cancer. Jacque battled breast cancer for 5 ½ years and fought for as long as she could with great resilience and perseverance.
Celebration of Life service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 27, 2023, in the East Wing of the Hyde County Memorial Auditorium in Highmore. Refreshments will be served and people are invited to "come as you are".
In lieu of flowers, Jacque’s family requests donations to be directed to a local cancer charity of your choice.
Jacque was born July 10, 1954, to Louis August and Sheila Ruth (Nichols) Tessadri. Jacque was raised in Rockvale, Colorado, and was proud to have been a “Colorado” girl, yet she lived in Germany, Kansas, and South Dakota. After 40 years, she had to admit, she had become a “South Dakota” girl!
In 1991, Jacque met the “Love of Her Life”, and after ruthlessly stalking him, AND winning him over, she and Kirk McDonnell were married on May 22, 1993.
Throughout the years, Jacque worked many jobs. In 1996, Jacque and Kirk purchased the Prairie View Motel in Highmore, and she has operated it ever since.
Jacque had many talents such as being a seamstress, genealogist, State President of the Historical Society, historian, cemetery board member, crocheter, quilter, scrapbooker, crafter, and business operator, among other things. She was also proud of her military family including her husband, daughter, son, and son-in-law.
Jacque loved to give gifts and spent countless hours making handmade items to give to others. She would pour her heart into everything she made and touched many lives with her kindness.
Jacque loved to bake for everyone, especially when she could with her little “Bugsy” and “Stormy”, her two favorite partners in crime. Magic Cookies were her favorite to make with them. Her proudest achievement was the title of “Gramma”.
Jacque is survived by her husband, Kirk McDonnell; daughter, Nicholette (Brandon) Marx; son, Clifford (Lana) Becker; grandchildren: Nathan and Melina Becker and her beloved “Bugsy” and “Stormy”, Grace and Chelsea Marx; as well as her large and extended family on both sides of the marriage.
Jacque was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marilyn Jean Rambish; and her son, Larry L. Becker, Jr.
Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Jacque's arrangements.
