James Anderson was born in Webster, SD on May 18, 1939, the oldest of 7 children to Joseph and Francis (Berget) Anderson. He was raised in and attended school in Day County. He attended college in Huron, SD.

While attending college in Huron, he met and married his wife, Dorothy Molitor. In 1966, they moved north of Highmore where they bought their first farm. They remained there and raised their 3 children. Upon retiring in 2003, they moved to Miller, SD.

Jim and Dorothy were fortunate enough to have traveled over the years. Many trips were taken, some with his sister, Joan, and several with Dorothy’s sister, Phyllis.

Jim was a man of few wants or needs. He was always quick with a joke and a hardy laugh. Being with his family was the most important thing to him.  His great joy in life was his children, grandchildren, and great granddaughters.

Jim was a lifelong Lutheran.  He belonged to Orient Lutheran Church and later Trinity Lutheran Church in Miller.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children: Tinea Graham, Patti (Dave) Leckner, and Jason Anderson; his four grandchildren: AJ Buechler, Jen (Mike) Lauritsen, Preston (Alicia) Martin, and Rogan Anderson; two great granddaughters: Keena and Elsie Lauritsen; five siblings: Joan Roesler, Jerome (Bernita) Anderson, Janice (Mark) Hubach, Jerold (Mona) Anderson, and Jeff Anderson; and his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; little brother, Jerry; and mother and father-in-law, Venus and Lawrence Molitor.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Jim’s arrangements.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Our thoughts and Prayers are with all of you.  We have many fine memories of Jim.  Your memories will remain forever in your hearts.  May our prayers bring you comfort and peace. In deepest Sympathy,

  2. All my sympathy. Spent a lot of time in high school out to their place and it was a treat every time when Jim got to joking around. The all time best was when we needed his help to get Juice's car going, in a ditch N of Highmore. A donkey protecting sheep was bluffing up to the fence and back. Jim hooted and ran toward him, that bugger took off braying and kicking like crazy! It was a pleasure to spend time with him. All my Love to the Family. Take Care, DK

  3. My sincere sympathy to the family of James Anderson.

  4. Hugs and prayers to Jim's family.
