James "Jim" McCloud

James "Jim" Dean McCloud, 63, of Highmore, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2022, at his home.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday June 23, 2022, at the Hyde County Auditorium in Highmore. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Highmore. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at the Hyde County Auditorium, Highmore.
Jim was born to Speed and Pat (Aesoph) McCloud on January 10, 1959, in Faulkton, South Dakota. He grew up working on the family farm with his siblings in northern Hyde County and went to grade school in Illinois township. Jim then went on to Highmore High School and finished his freshman year there. After that, he was able to attain his GED on his own. He went on to Lake Area Tech for a year to become a machinist.
Jim moved back to the family farm to help for a short period of time before moving to Rapid City, South Dakota. There, he worked at Dakota Steel as a welder for about eleven years. Jim and his brother, Tim, started T & J Auto Salvage for the next three years. After this, Jim moved back to family farm where he farmed and ranched for the next twelve years.
Jim moved to town and worked for Hoffman’s Bee Company for three years. He did various other jobs and then found himself building High Plains Agronomy in South Dakota and North Dakota in 2004 with his good friend, Brian Baus. He worked between both plants, but mostly in South Dakota. He semi-retired around 2016 to build and fix things for numerous people around the community.
Jim is survived by his mother, Pat McCloud; son, Derek (Suzy) and granddaughters: Mya, Avery and Kate; step daughter, Dana; grandchildren: Antonio, Geavoni and Serenity; daughter, Mindy (Mike); grandchildren: Hallee, Tristen, Izzy and Augie; son, Jack (Mandy); grandchildren: Ellyana and Mason; siblings: Bonnie (Gary, deceased), Bruce (Jane), Carol (Carol), Tim (Jodi) and Mark (Colette); several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Speed; and grandmothers: Kate McCloud and Bernice Aesoph.
Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Jim's arrangements.

Jim wanted to sell a motor cycle tag along trailer. I was looking for one and when I went to get it, he said there was a catch. I had to buy the motor cycle with it. There was another catch…the bike had a leak he had not yet found time to fix:) Well I still have the trailer and I like it. I did get the bike fixed and sold. He was smiling when I took the deal.
