James Ogle, 59, of Harrold, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at his home.

Funeral services were held a 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 24, 2010 at the Harrold Auditorium with Father Chester Murtha officiating. Burial followed in St. John’s Cemetery at Harrold. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 23, 2010 followed by a 7:00 p.m. wake service at St. John’s Catholic Church in Harrold.

Fredrick James was born October 30, 1950 to Lowell and Katherine (Schmitgen) Ogle in Pierre, South Dakota. Jim was raised on the farm north of Harrold and graduated from Harrold High School. Jim took over the family farm in 1967 following the death of his father and helped raise his six brothers.

He married Janet Ritter in 1968 and to this union two daughters were born, Tracey and Gerry. Jim always had either his brother Gary or daughters, Tracey or Gerry everywhere he went when they were little. Later on, he replaced them with his grandchildren. He always had a toddler under his arm at Pioneer Garage, the Highmore Salebarn or D&K Outpost.

Farming, ranching, his kids and grandkids were Jim’s life. He spent his entire life building his farm into his life’s dream. In his younger years, he loved to snowmobile and even sold Rupp snowmobiles for awhile. He used to go to the car races in Pierre, Miller and Huron for entertainment. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and fast cars. He also enjoyed mud running. Later in life, he would go racing at Oahe Speedway but it came second to his farming.

Jim was a hard guy to get to know but once he was your friend, he would do anything in his power to help you if you needed it.

Grateful to have shared in his life are his daughters: Tracey (Don) Beckler of Harrold, SD; their children: Chelsea Beckler, Taylor Runge, Brianna and Ryan Beckler, all of Harrold, SD; daughter, Gerry Ogle and her children: Brandon and Casey Ogle, all of Bloomfield, New York; his mother, Katherine Ogle of Harrold, SD; six brothers: Clarence (Lorna) Ogle of Rapid City, SD, Larry (Debbie) Ogle of Woonsocket, SD, Dave (Judy) Ogle of Harrold, SD, Dean (Mary Beth) Ogle of Augusta, Kansas, Mike Ogle of Harrold, SD, and Gary (Kristy) Ogle of Spokane, Washington; special cousin, Lisa Casady (Judge) Jessop of Presho, SD and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lowell; his special paternal granddad, Fred Ogle; paternal grandma, Leona Ogle; and maternal grandparents, James and Eugenia Schmitgen.

Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Jim's arrangements.
