Janit Lynn Uses Many was born on December 11, 1972, in Eagle Butte, South Dakota, to Jonas Uses Many and Vanessa (Red Bull) Black Moon. She was raised in the close-knit community of Red Scaffold, where she spent many years of her life. Janit graduated from Takini High School in 1991, where she was an avid basketball player, a passion she carried with her throughout her life.
Continuing her education, Janit attended United Tribes Technical College, earning a certificate in Hospitality Management. There, she not only excelled in her studies but also formed lifelong friendships that she cherished deeply. She furthered her academic journey at Sitting Bull College, where she earned two Associate of Science degrees: one in Early Childhood Education and another in Teacher Education. Janit’s commitment to learning and personal growth was a source of pride for her family and children.
Throughout her life, Janit held many roles, but none more fulfilling than her work as a Paraprofessional at Standing Rock Middle School. There, she touched the lives of so many students and colleagues with her warmth, dedication, and deep care. Janit also worked at A&B HeadStart, where she shared her love of teaching and working with children. She loved working with children.
Janit had a radiant smile and a great sense of humor that lit up any room. It was often said that she inherited both from her father, Jonas. She loved spending time with her sisters, family, and her friends Kate and Dee Dee Condon, Renae Talley, especially when playing softball. Her favorite position on the field was second base, and she proudly wore #13 in honor of her favorite New York Yankees player, Alex Rodriguez.
A dedicated sports fan, Janit was a huge fan of the New York Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys, both teams she loved with great passion. Her love for sports definitely showed and she was always ready to share her love of the game with others.
Janit leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication. Her spirit, her laughter, and her caring nature will be deeply missed, but her impact on all who knew her will never be forgotten.
Janit will be dearly missed by her mother, Vanessa Black Moon; daughter, Makayla Bad Warrior (grandchildren: Caleb, Calley, and Sage Claymore Jr.); sons, Luke Takes The Gun (Donel Takes The Gun) and Jace Bercier; and siblings: Jared Uses Many and family, Janel Uses Many (twin sister) and family, Jodene Uses Many (Kellen, Jensen, Maxton and Alanson) Jonie and Joe Brings Plenty and family, Jeffrey Uses Many and girls, and Gabe Blackmoon Jr. and family.
