Jerry D. Gilmour, 78, of rural Faulkton, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at Faulkton Area Medical Center, Faulkton.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Jerry Dean Gilmour was born December 26, 1943, at Faulkton, SD to Earl and Eileen (Beckler) Gilmour. He was the second of four children: Dennis, Jerry, Gordon, and Earleen. He attended Bryant Township country school and graduated from Faulkton High School in 1963.

After graduating, Jerry ventured out into the world joining the Air Force, finishing basic training and specializing in helicopter mechanics. He was a member of the Big Bore Firing Squad. He served in the Vietnam War from 1966-1967. After his discharge, Jerry took flying lessons and enjoyed small engine flying. Jerry and friends headed north to Alaska working and enjoying the activities of the outdoor lifestyle. His father’s death brought him back home to the farm.

In 1973, Jerry married Linda Reid and they were blessed with two sons: Garret and Kyle. Jerry farmed/ranched west of Faulkton raising sheep, pigs, cattle, horses, and elk. He volunteered his services in the Faulk County Saddle Club for many years. Jerry enjoyed many activities that contributed to his quality of life such as horses, hunting, gardening, square dancing, reading (L’Amour fan), and visiting with friends and neighbors.

Jerry is survived by his sons: Garrett of Sioux Falls and Kyle of Highmore; and two siblings: Gordon of Faulkton and Earleen of Mitchell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Dennis.

Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Jerry’s arrangements.

  8. We are so sorry for your loss. Jerry often brought in a new recipe to the FSA office for me. I still use his recipe for hamburger muffins and chicken nuggets that he gave me. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Heaven gained a good one of the best.  🙏❤️
