Jerald "Jerry" Martin, 54, of Las Vegas, NV and formerly of Highmore, SD, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2010 at his home.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 7, 2011 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Highmore with Father Paul Nereparampil officiating. Burial followed at St. John’s Cemetery in Wagner.  Visitation was held from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, January 6, 2011 with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at the church.

Jerry was born July 4, 1956 at US Naval Hospital, Great Lakes, IL to Harry & Alma (Wagner) Martin.  He was a 1974 graduate of Highmore High School and attended Black Hills College, Spearfish, SD.

Jerry worked for Black Hills Gold Mine and Pope & Talbot Lumber Mills in the Black Hills area before moving to Las Vegas in 1998.  He was employed by Palace Station Casino at the time of his death.

Jerry will be remembered for his friendly nature and always having a smile on his face.  If you needed to know anything about sports, just ask Jerry as he was an avid sports fan.

Survivors include his sisters, Patricia Martin of Vancouver, British Columbia, Pamela (Tom) Durfee of Highmore, SD, and Paula Bartunek of Hawarden, IA and 8 nieces & nephews.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Harry & Alma Martin and his brother John.

Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Jerry's arrangements.

  2. Jerry was one of the good guys in high school. I was so shocked to hear of his death. My prayers are with the family.

  3. Sorry to hear of Jerry’s passing. Our friendship developed when were in HS and both wrestling for different schools. It continued on at Black Hills State where we were Freshman roommates in the fall of ’74 in Wenona Cook Hall. Jerry was one of the good guys.

  4. So sorry to hear of Jerry’s passing. I worked with him at Pope & Talbot for many years in fact at one time he was my boss before moving to Las Vegas. My condolences are with his family at this time.

  5. To Jerry’s Family: I am very sorry for your loss of such a great guy. I haven’t seen Jerry a whole lot since high school, but when I did, I always felt he was glad to see me. He had a way of making everyone feel that way. A really, really nice guy who will be missed. May your memories comfort you.

  8. Grew up with Jerry. While he was 2 years ahead of me in school, we still played sports togeher. Many fond memories of bus rides to summer baseball games with both John and Jerry. Also got to know him well while living in Spearfish back in the early 80’s. Saddens me to hear of another friend dying way to early. My prayers for Jerry and his family. RIP my friend.

He had a great smile and twinkle in the eye. I believe my brother chuck and him lived together for awhile when chuck attended BHS. May you find some peace in the love of your family and friends.
