Jim Hancock
January 5, 1928 ~ December 5, 2024
James “Jim” Hancock, 96, of Miller and formerly of Ree Heights, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society in Miller.
A Celebration of Life for Jim will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the Ree Heights Auditorium. Fellowship and a meal will follow the celebration.
Jim was born on January 5, 1928, to Ernest and Mary (Felkey) Hancock on the family farm in Rock Dale Township. He attended school through the eighth grade. He married Elsie Jones, and together they lived on the family farm until 1963 when they moved to Ree Heights. Over the years, Jim worked on his dad's family farm, and various other jobs before running a municipal sewer cleaning service. He was proud to be a 52-year member of Alcoholics Anonymous, a milestone that meant a great deal to him.
One of Jim’s greatest joys was playing cards, particularly pinochle. He was always ready for a game, playing anytime, anywhere, and with anyone—often for just a dollar. He also cherished his lifelong friendship with the Millerdale Colony and always enjoyed their visits.
Jim is survived by his eleven children: Mike Hancock of San Antonio, TX; Ruth (Alan) Jockheck of Pierre; Maurice (Wanda) Hancock of Downs, KS; Jerry (Evalyn) Hancock of Laquey, MO; Rose (Warren) Nelson of Rapid City; Sheila Hancock of Miller; Earl Hancock of Ree Heights; Susie (Joe) Bryant of Halstead, KS; Mary Hancock of Eureka, KS; Jill (Dan) Sullivan of Virginia Beach, VA; and Jack (Rosemary) Hancock of Chattanooga, TN. He leaves behind 26 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elsie; four brothers; and three sisters.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Jim’s arrangements.

I was just thinking on calling Jim again. Instead I'm sending Our Sincerest Condolences at his passing. I visited him in Miller in 2016 with my niece Kathleen Hancock. Love to ALL his Children and their Families.

Our sincere Sympathy in Jim’s passing❤️We got to know him when he came to church in Highmore. He and Mom enjoyed being the same age and both being “spunky” too😊 We decided that helped them enjoy a long Blessed life! Our Love & Hugs
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you and your families. May the many fond memories and experiences you shared be of comfort to all of you.
to all of the Hancock family I am so sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. I stopped in Ree Heights around 10 years ago and I’m driving through the the town to see which homes were still lived in when I passed the Hancock home who comes put in around the corner in a golf cart but Jim. I introduced myself and spent the next hour catching up. He was so proud of all his kids and still pretty darn sharp. It made my day and I hoped I made his day a little better too. God bless you all in this time of sorrow.
Love you grandpa. May you forever be in peace.
Sorry for your loss. He was very helpful in AA program. He will be missed by many.

Sorry for your loss, Jim was such a helpful person, I remember him and his family living in Rockdale township as I lived 3 miles south in Glendale township. My thoughts and prayers are with the Hancock families.

My sincere condolences to Jim's family. He was a character who I was always enjoyed visiting with as he was quite a story teller! Another Ree Heights icon has passed. He managed to outlast everyone else of his generation: and I feel there is one heck of a pinochle card game going on in Heaven and he is likely winning!
Our sincerest condolences to Jim’s family. R.I.P. Jim.
