Jack was born on September 6, 1958 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre, SD to Lee and Catherine Peterson of Holabird, SD. He was accompanied by a twin sister, Julia. Jack attended Loomis country school through sixth grade and Holabird country school through 8th grade, graduating from Highmore High School in May 1976.
Jack always loved ranch and farm life and that is where he spent most of his adult years. His jobs took him from Central SD to Western SD and back. The last several years Jack has been employed by Jean and Lenny Walcott in the Reliance area on their ranch. He was happiest in the wide open spaces admiring the land, enjoying the scenery, checking the cows and feeding the cats.
Jack was an avid pinochle player and loved challenging his family at every gathering. He played softball with the Highmore League the years he lived here and had many fond memories of those ‘games’. Jack hunted some but mainly enjoyed collecting and owning guns. Jack liked all animals and loved children, especially his nieces and nephews.
Grateful for having shared his life are his parents, Lee & Catherine Peterson of Holabird; five brothers Joe Peterson of Deadwood, Rock Peterson of Pierre, Colin (MaDonna) Peterson of Martin, Ross (Chrissy) Peterson of Sturgis and Steve (Lori) Peterson of Holabird; one sister Julie (Chad) Carroll of Rapid City; eight nieces; seven nephews; three great-nieces and two great-nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother Dancey Peterson and one nephew Frances Carroll.
Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Jack's arrangements.

I was saddened to hear of Jack’s passing. The Peterson family and Mize families have been friends and neighbors since before I was born so I don,t remember a time when I didn’t know Jack.
I have fond memories from attending the one room Loomis school and high school with him, and the hard fought softball games that took every child in order to make two teams.
My thoughts and prayers are with you in the day’s to come.
