The family requests that those attending Kayden’s service wear their favorite “Kayden Strong”, Faulkton Trojan, or FH Hitmen apparel.

Kayden Christopher Hammond was born November 10, 2005, to Christopher and Alicia (Sheffield) Hammond in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

Kayden was a junior at Faulkton Area School District.  Kayden was active in as many things as possible.  In the fall he was a dual sport athlete, playing football and running cross country.  He also played basketball, ran track and played baseball. He enjoyed music of all genres and his walk up song, “Wannabe”, has followed him for years and continues to bring giggles.  He enjoyed FFA, attending stock car races, was a 4-H member and enjoyed shooting sports and trap shooting.  He most recently shot his best trap score at State Trap.  If he wasn’t involved in an activity, he was hunting, fishing, farming, checking cows and just being on the farm.  He was a lover of sunrises and sunsets and making everyone laugh.  He volunteered with Sunday school events, worked in a classroom, and was known for his children’s sermons.  He was a phenomenal big brother and leaves many memories. He will always be remembered for his smile and being the best teammate in all aspects of life.

Kayden was diagnosed with T-cell Leukemia January 24, 2022.  He immediately began a courageous battle with cancer.  Quickly he chose Joshua 1:9 as his verse to support him as well as others.  He also took on the color orange to support leukemia awareness.  He wanted to be a supporter of childhood cancer awareness as well as showing others you can battle back through illness.

Kayden is loved by his parents: Chris and Alicia of Faulkton; younger brothers: Kyler and Kudder; maternal grandmother, Mary Mohling of Tulare; maternal grandfather, LeRoy Sheffield (Penny Stolsmark) of Aberdeen; maternal great-grandmother, Alma Mohling of Wessington Springs; paternal grandparents, Lynne and Karen Hammond of Faulkton; paternal great-grandmother, Marlene Hammond; aunts and uncles: Brandon (Natalie) Sheffield of Plymouth, MN, Grace “Jing-Jing” Sheffield of Aberdeen, Tiffany Paul (Nathan Little) of Faulkton and children: Mason, Sawyer, Bennett, and Bellamy Paul; many teammates, classmates, friends, church buddies and his Sanford family.

Kayden is preceded in death by his great grandparents: Wilfred Mohling, Dorothy Thomas, Keith Sheffield, Richard Hammond, and Raymond and Genevieve Schmidt.

We would like to express our deepest appreciation for the support we received not only from our community but many surrounding communities, especially the following groups who gave special gifts and care to Kayden: Project Outrun, Luke's Fast Breaks, Make a Wish and Sanford Child Life.  The outpouring of love we felt for Kayden and our family is something we will always be grateful for.  We will always remember how much we are loved.

Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Kayden's arrangements.

Joshua 1:9 - "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” 🧡

Guestbook

  1. Nancy Eaton Gulbrandson says:

I am grew up on Orient and remember the Hammond family.  My heart breaks for your loss and I pray for you🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

  3. I'm so sorry for your loss. Keeping your family in my thoughts and prayers.

  4. It is with such a heavy heat that we even dare ask why at such a young age does Kayden have to go, why do any young have to go. We have to remember we are of a broken world, a world full of sorrow and hurt and yet we have the one who will get us through it ALL. It is times like this to turn to God not away. Job went through so much yet never lost hope or love for God and in the end he was rewarded. Yes, he lost but he and WE will be reunited in heaven with our loved ones. So until we see them again enjoy the memories because this life is only for a short time. He is no longer in pain and of this world, he is walking with the savior.
    Love to all.
    April and family
