After graduation, LaJean worked for Northwestern Bell before marrying Elmer (Johnnie) Hansen in 1954. They made their first home in Huron, SD, and had three children, Karla, Kyle and Kirk. A career move took the family to California, Illinois, and Michigan before they made their way back to Gettysburg, SD, where she helped establish Hansen Plumbing in 1975.

LaJean was one of the sweetest women I have ever met! She welcomed me as her daughter-in-law with open arms and a loving heart. Our family has so many wonderful memories of our visits to South Dakota and of her visiting us in Washington. She suffered a lot of loss in her life but was such a great example of relying on love and faith to not only navigate through the tough times but to also be a rock and inspiration to others. She will be missed by our family so much but we are comforted in knowing she is with those who went before her – hanging out drinking coffee, eating nut rolls, and catching up. Maybe playing a game of Golf (the card game)!
In 1954 I had the pleasure of being the Flower Girl at LaJean and Johnny's Wedding. Cousins we were. Loved this quiet petite lady so much. She had faith and strength in God always. Now she is in her forever home in Heaven. So thankful for you LaJean in my life. Connie
